TY! that album cover was designed by Jean who runs the label it's coming out on. I really dig it myself - album covers are generally something I struggle with (in large part because I've spent many months on the music itself, and then at the last minute I feel like I have to come up with a visual representation which is going to serve as the first impression). So whenever someone else offers to do it for me it's a great relief

yeah it can be really frustrated to have to come up with some single image that represents a bunch of music you've painstakingly created over so many months. sometimes i feel like i can't even put something up online without a cool image and i have 0 such images on hand lol

ha yeah the album art for the cassette is dope, props to the artist.

just dled the violence album and did a quick breeze through the tracks, it sounds really, really interesting. going to give it a proper listen this week.

tbh i haven't listened to this album since i finished it. it was an unusual development period for me: working on rough demos for over 14 months (which I think is the longest i've spent between albums), but then the actual production of the final tracks took only like two weeks. was a very emotional process, which felt surprising after such a long period of being chill with music. felt like i was very abruptly closing off a chapter of my life, wanting to put a number of things to rest before 2020//my 20s were over. and then of course after that was done i made another album from start to finish in the space of about a month & a half

new new stuff that i'm working on feels pretty good. it's kind of in a middle ground between the (imo) chill poppiness of this album & the aggressively anti-social vibes of music to play while watching pornography. i think i might start releasing homemade sample packs & stems & things like that, try to adopt a more depersonalized relationship with music releasing

at http://world3.tk/ , my sporadically updated webzzzzone (newer albums are the ones on top. that list goes all the way back to stuff i put out in highshool, and the "bin" link at the bottom goes to a bunch of random demo tracks etc). glad you liked the mix! tbh i was coming up short on the deadline for that, so I slowed the whole thing down by 1/6th in order to pad the runtime. It wasn't originally so downtempo lol

Listening now, sounds tight.  I dig it a lot.  Also, I second what Alco said about the art, it's amazing.  Fits with the literature theme.

Ive always thought I'm better at making album covers than actual albums.  Your problem is probably the better one to have.

i feel like as long as a person has a thing they can creatively express themselves with, that's the important part. with music i've been doing it so long (started playing synths when i was six) that it feels almost like breathing at this point. i'll go long phases without even listening to other music because it feels pretty much just as automatic to make some of my own. and making albums is also fairly intuitive to me because i tend to systematize things by default: whatever idea i'm exploring musically at any given time tends to eventually crystalize into the form of an album (i've put out very few standalone trax over the years). But then with something like visual art, it feels much less intutive. I feel like I can make cool drawings, but within a narrower range. It's like any artistic practice is a language: in order to be able to express complex ideas with it, a person needs to spend time developing familiarity with it

I downloaded it from the world3.tk website and have been idling though it thoughout the day. It's really nice and chill, and I've usually been looking forward to the next song. Maybe the amount of distortion gets a little overbearing sometimes, or maybe that's part of the style and I'm not used to it. Anyway, congrats on a great album!

On the subject of being 30: Turning 30 is way worse than being 30. After you cross the threshold, it's just... meh. It's the same. I felt older at 29 then at 31, actually - it's the last digits that gets you. My two cents anyway.

i mean i can see the logical process behind this! ketchup is very sweet. you wouldn't think carrots would go in desserts at first glance, but you've got your carrot cake, your carrot muffins, the Cahara(t) Desset etc.

i mean ketchup doesn't go on ice cream of course, but this sort of thing is the cost of honouring the exploratory instincts of the youth

still enjoying this a lot. opens up a little more each time, the poppy/catchy aspects sorta come more to the fore but also the weirder underbelly throughout shows itself as even weirder each time i listen. kinda great tbh.

thanks guys! if you like this one, the two albums that came before it (my life as a series of drones // the spore cloud) are fairly similar, whereas the one that came after (music to play while watching pornography) is very much in the weirder end of things (i was doing lots of vyvanse & feeling paranoid about the end of the world).

been doing a lot of more experimental stuff lately without trying to produce songs proper. i think when i move out east this fall i'm just gonna lock myself up for a few months & do music proper (this loop is from earlier this week)

I finally downloaded i heard the sound of violence, far off and The Spore Cloud earlier today and man, these are seriously special. playful and chilled out, distorted, self aware (in a good way), funky, noisy, warped, weird, thoughtful...  really great.

for anyone reading this thread but not yet listening (bc time is precious indeed): using references from my own little collection, i would recommend this for fans of: early MoM, boc, capitol k, milieu, freescha
