I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

  • thumbass changed the title to Jon Hopkins - Music For Psychedelic Therapy

I’ll avoid putting another boot in too much but he’s never made anything I’ve liked. I think he appeals to an indie guitar crowd that likes to dabble in electronic music (like Chem Bros. back in the day). I think he ticks that particular box. Like some of those wankers (not all of them) over on Drowned in Sound. They usually gobble each other off over this dude. Which I guess makes a change from gobbling themselves off, of which they are specialists at.

Wtf is this

it's when you have the 'eurorack ambient recipe' modules and an abundance of succulents on your desk next to your modular and you meditate a lot and are in touch with 'feelings' and probably some crystals and a dash of new age-ness thrown in as a pandemic coping mechanism and generally don't know wtf to do w/yourself but this seems right and got a good response on social media from people in a gift giving festival group some of members of which got really high at some festival once and took a dirt nap mid festival and received event citations and/or were featured in the Jaded Review Hippie Watching Guide.

yeah I’ve always found is stuff really annoying. Dull, cold, empty. everyone always says it’s “cinematic” but I’m just hearing superficial.

also, the limits of this guy’s imagination are made obvious with the use of the word “psychedelic” here. yeah man this is some far out stuff

i picked up a copy of Singularity a while back at a record store that wont be named and the owner told me '10 out of 10, album of the year'.  Let me tell you it wasn't.

But yeah hopkins plays this weird role thats kinda like tim hecker for total softies in terms of bridging over the pitchfork crowd. they wouldnt last a day in these threads tho

it looks like if you just search "ram dass" on youtube and find the first video some guy made of some ambient music in the background of some random speech from him with a kaleidoscope generator video as the background with about 3k views
