A bunch of idiots chose Kanye West. I'm done. Fucking idiots. If you can't understand that RDJ is the once in a lifetime, premiere electronic music artist of our time and of maybe all time, you're a fucking trashbag. Sorry to come in so strong here. Most people just don't really get what they're hearing, how much skill it takes to make, and what separates originality/skill/expression from run of the mill copycat work.

Aphex Twin is on some level a mainstream artist, and Reddit is a general forum that appeals to the 'surface level' of a subject. 

Go look up Aphex Twin on Kanye West's subreddit. I don't even have to go there to know a lot of people who don't know what kind of music he makes is going to say they like Aphex Twin, and will have listened to his albums a few times.

And if they do know who he is and have listened to some of his albums (and Board of Canada's albums) they are going to say "I don't like the term IDM because it implies it's more intelligent than other forums of dance music." Because the term EDM implies that it's " Electronic " Dance Music and nothing else is.

Point being Reddit appeals to 'beginners' / dillitants. Kinda. I'm sure there is a better way to describe it. Not every subreddit is surface level, but for the most part they are.

 I have a friend who knows I don’t Reddit but he himself is very pro-Reddit and always tries to race me to the latest RDJ news as a bit of a game to try and somehow prove the supreme validity of Reddit. Meanwhile, I exclusively get my RDJ news from watmm and I always beat him to the news. Granted, the possibility is there that he will one day beat me to some tasty news but the fact is that he’s an enthusiast more than a superfan and therein lies his flaw… which is why he should stick to Reddit. He also refuses to pay for a watmm membership, but that’s ok because it’s clearly not that important to him.

i cant fuckinbg believe that are ANY rdj fans who do not rank rdj as their top artist, in fact if you ever listened to anybody except rdj in the past week, not only is your iq not high enough to appreciate idm, but you have basically failed the test of becoming a mature music listener, not a child like the redditors, if anyone reading this doesnt have rdj as their number one artist, i suggest you feel ashamed and delete your entire hard drive.  rdj is by far the best music in the world, if you ever listen to anything except rdj you are less than a worm.  to be fair it takes a very high iq to understand rdj.  the drum rolls are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of microtonality, most of the song will go over a typical listerner's head.  there's also richard's whimsical outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization-his personal philosophy draws heavily from porn audio samples, for instance.  the fans understand this stuff, they have the musical capacity to truly appreciate the depth of richard's musical talent, to realize it's not just music, it's art on part with beethoven and mozart, in fact better.  as a consequence those people who don't rank rdj their #1 artist truly ARE the babies of musical listeners, of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the phrase "i would like some milk from the milk man's wife's tits" which itself is a refernce to the milk man's wife musically dominating that of her husband's dull musical taste and looking elsewhere for ear sustenance.  i'm smirking right now just imagining one of those simpleton kanye listeners scratching their asses in confusion as they try to figure out the time signature of richars'd most superior works as his genius unfolds itself on their airpods.  what babies, I will rip their earbuds out and put in my own to force them to listen to cock/ver at boosted volume levels

I don't dislike Reddit in the way you do, really since it is a good gateway into many things. It just feels like someone took the concepts of the 'facebook groups' and forced it into the 'forum format', replacing likes with the upvote/downvote system. So you will get a lot of people looking for subreddits to follow and they will think "I have spent a total of 3 hours of my life thinking about this one subject/thing here, so that is good enough to follow the subreddit and post my opinions like I already know most of what there is to know."

There is a reason reddit has so many users. If you are a newb and want to get into the basics of a subject, Reddit is good for that since every topic under the sun as 20 subreddits dedicated to it. IF you want to dig deeper than surface level, Reddit for the most part is not good for that. But there are many interesting subreddits in things I myself am a 'dilettante' of. So subreddits for those things are useful.

That said if you like the music you see on this forum, the subreddits are kind of a waste of time. 

Btw it's odd your friend is trying to beat you to the punch with news about an artist he is just a casual fan of. Lol. I don't get the point. If you are a newbie to something, admit it. It's not a bad thing, and it will annoy people when you say something that isn't accurate with conviction, more than if you ask a basic question about it and admit you just started looking into that thing.

I feel the same about that subreddit, it is honestly cringe as fuck and nothing is interesting there.

Reddit has too many idiots, that's the problem with Reddit. watmm has its share of idiots as well, but there's only so many of them, so in the end you get to know them and appreciate them in some sense. Like the class you were stuck with in school, prolonged exposure turns into some sort of Stockholm syndrome. Reddit is just an endless floodwave of unknowns with varying degrees of retardedness.
