2021 : the year without any albums

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

This is the first year without any studio album by the main 4 artists that make the WATMM forum (AE/AFX/BOC/SQ).  There were some stuff in the form of reissues, remixes, EP's, 12inch vinyls, live and collabs, but no LP.   Same for the other WATMM subfolder artists, only mu-ziq, Clark and Ceephax released a long-play album iirc.

This is one of many years without any studio album by the main 4 artists that make the WATMM forum (AE/AFX/BOC/SQ).

The last came in 2019, but 2017 was also a very difficult year for all of us.

Ah yeah, my brain froze to the fact that it happened before, it's more yet another year

We're getting older, they are getting older,

And we used to sleep on the beach here, sleep overnight.
They don't do that anymore.
Things changed...

Why is this an issue?

It Doesn't Matter™
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.
dcomμnications (WATMM blog, mostly about non-IDM releases, maybe something else, too.)

there's a possibility (albeit a small one) that the IDM moons are about to align we'll get releases from all 4 next year.

saw 85-92 will turn 30, didn't rich say he was in talks with r&s to put something cool out? either way, new afx is overdue.

boc lunatics think there's something in the 22/02/2022 date (geogaddi also turns 20 next year)

autechre usually release something in alternating years and i feel this would be the least surprising of the bunch

pusher seems to be back in wizard mode and it's almost been 2 years since his latest, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was itching to get something else out

failing the above, we should hopefully get a new future brown record.

boc will release a hanukkah-theme album in a few days

I was out of focus when I read that as bukaka

We did get vaccinated and a fun new covid-19 variant, so it's not like this year was all for nothing.

I also distinctly remember listening to albums.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Only the main 4 are relevant, they are the pillars of dad-rock IDM.  Oh and VSnares of course because Papa never wanted a forum for him. :emotawesomepm9:

Sorry but how is boc relevant?

Because they were quarantining before you were born. They will lead the new Hexagon cult that will save us from ourselves. Now put your space helmet on, and get to the back of the line. ?

They should do a Fred Durst and replicate his new look. That would be hilarious. Maybe. Maybe not.

I'm ready for new BoC in 2022. Want the BoC feelz badly. Also, Plaid. Other than that, I do not care much if there wasn't new releases of the other biggies. Ae post NTS was more meh for me. Must admit I haven't got too high expectations as for Ae. Not caring about RDJ at all, the love died.

There's enough music out there. Don't we have a 2021 retrospective thread? I'm overall fine with all the classical music to explore and as for IDM, exm's releases do the job for me. Last weak I just noticed I missed some Mike P music, Chewed Corners and Scurlage.

The big artists aren't the only ones that necessarily release good music.
