I'm a candidate, my eyes are sooo bad (-8.0), but they've started getting a little better as I've gotten older which probably would've messed it up had I done it.

I don't mind wearing contacts, so I'm not going to get the laser eyes.

I'm @ -3.5 but when I'm wearing my contacts or goggles I can't read too close... reminds me of my grandparents pushing the pages away from their eyes so that they could read... I do that now as well... old people...?

But doesn't no glasses ever again sound nice ? To me the only cool thing about glasses is the fashion aspect but other than that, fuck it.

I've done it. in fact I think I made a thread on here about it when I was considering it. it was a game changer for me. my vision was previously -8.0 in one eye and -8.5 in the other. my current clarity will of course decline with age but it'll start from a much better place than before.

I had PRK done cos my corneas were too thin for LASIK. the process is obviously unpleasant and PRK has a longer and more uncomfortable recovery time. I lived with taped eyepatches on and didn't go outside for about 4-5 days.

I experienced some some side-effects. for a couple of years I would occasionally wake up with painfully dry eyes. this stopped eventually. the more lasting side-effect is that my night vision is a bit less defined now, like it's harder to tell dark shades apart from each other. but for me, all that was a small price to pay for clear vision first thing in the morning without glasses or contacts.

everyone has their own individual health risks (smonking bad, no surprise) and appetite for risk-taking, plus the specialist you go with has a big impact. those are the things you want to keep in mind if you're weighing up the decision. I would suggest if you're serious about it that you do the initial consult, get an accurate assessment that includes your personal risk profile, and then sit and think on it for a while before making a choice.

I read the lasek site and it said that no one has ever gone blind from it... so I guess that's an urban legend. The consultation is free so we'll see.

I went blind for a year after lassie. Not kidding. Worst pain of my life too. turns out I had herpes in both eyes. No pain killersa either. Worst nightmare of my lief. at least I got my money back and my vision. But it was almost a whole year of total blindness and pain beyond anything I can describe.  Then after it healed I had horrible dry eye for a year. Turns out a warm compress heals that. but I used 100 vials of eye drops a day for a year. 20 bucks a day. Dry eye is another level if fucked. This was about 5 years ago.  My eyes are about 20/30 now. And its wonderful. So I like that part. The doctor didnt tell me I might not get my sight back. My cornea got damaged, but that eventually healed too. But it took years.

I am the less than 1 percent though. I m sure it'll work idiot for you. Its great once it heals.

We used to have that collage of everyone's ugly faces, that one where Joyrex looked like Matt Damon.
