New Original Solo Album by Ryuichi Sakamoto from commmons and Milan Records

“12” will be released on his 71st birthday, January 17th, 2023.

Available for pre-order now: https://ryuichisakamoto.lnk.to/twelve

Of the album, Sakamoto says,

“….after I finally ‘came home’ to my new temporary housing after a big operation, I found myself reaching for the synthesizer. I had no intention of composing something; I just wanted to be showered in sound. I’ll probably continue to keep this kind of ‘diary.’”

Ryuichi Sakamoto will release his first original album in six years, since "async" released in 2017. The album “12” is a collection of 12 songs selected from the musical sketches he recorded like a sound diary, during his two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Recorded between 2021 and 2022, the album’s twelve tracks are titled and sequenced by the dates each were written, culminating in a diary-like collection of music that provides an intimate snapshot into this period of Sakamoto’s life.

Artwork for the album was created by renowned artist Lee Ufan for whom Sakamoto has enormous respect.

This has dropped and it is some wonderful ambient/classical crossover. Beautifully soothing music.

All Electronica people from over the world on Facebook is crying rivers about this sad news he passed away.
I mean R.I.P. Of course but besides from synth pop band he had in the 70's were there any solid hits of some kind?

Or some legendary ambient album he did that I have been missing? Like Eno's music for Airports.

Feel free to post something awesome by Ryuichi Sakamoto

His work on The Revenant soundtrack was pretty amazing.

Found this album also on Bandcamp, highly recommended.

It Doesn't Matter™
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

How about finding it out for yourself instead of asking others to spend time and effort to prove something that's a matter of taste? Sakamoto's influence and relevance as an artist in general is well-nigh indisputable, but you may not like any of the music he's made, alone or with others.
