SUUMHOW - YEARS FAILED SUCCESSFULLY

There’s something magical here; the sounds of Suumhow seem to bend and shift, as if to call upon its listeners to disseminate what’s hidden beneath its many layers. The Belgian duo remain nameless, and with their third album, there’s a maturation of sound-scraping beauty that can’t be ignored. The subtle weaving glitch strands of “Justine” to the fibrous electronics of “llllllllllllllllllllllllll” and “Non Peut Etre” (reminding us of Fennesz and Lexaunculpt’s beautiful noise), have us captivated. And even within the crunchy IDM fizz-fuzz of “OO,” Suumhow draws our attention to its roughened textures and nostalgic synths, taking us back to memories of childhood. Perhaps the years have in fact failed successfully—was this the goal or natural progression? There are softer moments, too; that of distant BOC hues featured on “NINI” to shattered rhythms and 8-Bit lava flows found on “#### This World,” Suumhow somehow brings it all together in full sonic color. The myriad of disheveled electronics carves a unique pathway Suumhow embodies—crafting compelling yet arcane music that is timeless, these are sandblasted IDM morsels from Brussels.

this is a really good album. kinda 90s-00s IDM vibes but still very modern. catchy too, but plenty of nice variations in sound design and all
