Never take an artist's work for granted as any album can be their last. SoTL have released some of my favorite music and, while we still have Adam Wiltzie working in the 'A Winged Victory For The Sullen' project, there is a decadence in the SoTL records: a willingness to let a single relatively raw idea simmer and float for a long time in a way that feels relatively unrestrained compared to Winged Victory. I'm forever indebted. RIP

Damn, this sucks. They produced some of the best drone music, IMO.

I consider myself very lucky to have seen them live twice, including this amazing show:

Real sad news. “And Their Refinement” is a top 5 record for me. Like the poster above me, I was also able to see them live twice.

The most memorable was the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, May of 2008. A friend from the twoism forums couldn’t make it and simply gave me his two front row tickets. Truly an amazing, unforgettable show.

He’ll live on in his music

Wow I forgot about this. I’m so glad you got to go. Thankfully I managed to catch them on that tour at a later date.

Hearing “December Hunting” live was a peak experience for me. Between Brian and Harold Budd, we’ve lost legends of the genre.

This is profoundly sad. One of my favorite groups, their discography is immaculate. Tired Sounds and Refinement of Decline are very near and dear to me. RIP.

this is beautifully stated about their music. a sad passing indeed.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

So sad.

I've been listening to "Tired Sounds..." on the regular for about 10 years now and it is in my top 10 albums of all time. Incredibly comforting album, one which I have no doubt I will be listening to for the rest of my life.

Farewell Brian x

he certainly had his hand in making a couple of undeniable classics, listening to those albums remains a rite of passage to anyone who has an interest in modern instrumental music

RIP

Still think fondly back to the memorable SOTL gig in London at St John at Hackney! Tired Sounds and Refinement are total perfection. R.I.P Brian.
