Had no idea they released an album since 2011. Looks like they're headlining Field Day this year. Otherwise the lineup looks pretty awful.

It always feel a bit strange talking about Justice on WATMM, as they were really era-defining artists when you were a French teenager in 2007 but no one seems to give a fuck around here haha (or worse: there's always someone who will just post the infamous picture of them headbanging during a DJ set with their setup unplugged).

Anyway Hyperdrama came out yesterday and I love it. I am playing on repeat the first track even though it's quite cheesy. Very looking forward seeing them live this summer, the Woman tour was awesome and from the Coachella videos I saw, new live is just more of the same which is perfectly fine for me :emotawesomepm9:

I’m giving this album like a 7.5

maybe it’s just not my style, maybe it’s because it sounds like they’re rehashing old ideas but maybe that’s just their sound now. I was in love with Cross, those days are long gone it seems.

Yeah had the same impression. There is no hit single on the new LP that holds the torch to the ones they had in the past. Also this ultra strong compression that made them stood out so much dates pretty badly and they still do it in a similar way

As an American teenager in 2007, I also feel weird about it. That whole era of my life, as far as music, was getting really into what was coming out of the French scene, New Rave (like Klaxons), and starting to listen to various WARP and SKAM artists.

I remember first finding the "Waters of Nazareth" EP they had posted on their Myspace, then listening to Mr. Oizo, Kavinsky, Surkin and SebastiAn too (just to name a few, I have a few of the Ed Rec. compilation albums). I grew out of liking much of what Justice was doing after their "Cross" album since they seemed to drift into a more polished (or maybe even poppy?) sound when I was initially attracted to the grit/bit-crushed sounds they had earlier (I still love DVNO and D.A.N.C.E. though, those are classic tracks). I think I had some bootlegs of their "I Love Techno" 2006 live set. Quick fun anecdote with that one is that my now partner also had that rip back when she was in high school and we only ever got to talking about it, since we had both moved on a bit in our lives, because she loved the Teenage Bad Girl remix of Scissor Sisters. It was fun to re-converge on something I thought no one around me would ever know about independent of me showing it to them since almost none of my IRL friends dig my musical taste.

Also, that picture of them with their gear unplugged is pretty damn hilarious.

Cheers from over on this side of the planet, anyhow.

ill be brutally honest i think this is their best album by far *ducks*

I don't Hate the rest of their albums but this one feels like the most substantive and least annoying

Cross does have the incredible first 2 tracks though ill give it that

I have the same feeling, of course will have to see if it stands the test of time... But I think this might be their best sounding and polished album yet. There is a bit of everything in it, Generator and Incognito even scratched that Cross itch for me haha.

If you want to experience the last tour, you can watch their movie "Iris" for free on Youtube, which is basically a captation of the Woman Worldwide tour and is stunning :

Positive Metal Attitude

They got better at mixing and the music sounds worse as a result.

EDIT: ok this album is pretty good actually. Don't hate it

Sounds like Mr. Oizo borrowed them a ton of samples from his 2007 folder for that Generator track.

Seems they used a VST called Rave Generator haha

I was hoping they would give more details about the production of Neverender!

Saw them live this summer, really hope they are considering releasing a live album of this tour. They said a lot that most of the tracks on Hyperdrama started as gabber demos, and indeed they are playing these versions live. Will see them a second time in February, can't wait!
