Gábor Lázár - Reflex

»Reflex« is Gábor Lázár's debut album on Raster. His new album is a collection of seven tracks, featuring an extended sound palette of percussions and synthesizers drawing our attention towards the essential soundscapes of techno while maintaining his distinct, uncompromising and meticulously detailed style. While the tracks do not follow traditional narratives, the album has an evolution: it gently builds up from challenging, unpredictable, and organically composed structures to linear yet playful forms of techno-infused tracks, taking us on a journey from home listening environments to club contexts.

Our senses are stimulated by micro-variations of textures and patterns, leading us to the feeling of here and now, allowing us to observe our own reactions and thoughts evoked by the listening experience. Gábor’s consistent production techniques and intuitive compositional approach work together coherently, addressing the listener's cognition from different angles simultaneously, offering a variety of ways for the listener to get immersed.

»Reflex« will be released on raster in September 2024 on vinyl and CD.

Sadly I don't get the hype this guy gets. It all sounds so samey, metallic and quite soulless tbh? Hopefully this'll warm me up to his act more

Unfold and quite a few tracks on the Mark Fell collab, Source and Boundary Objects are pure bliss when just like me you love the additive synthesis tones that are all over his tracks. The crux of his recent tunes is IMO a personal take on what Electro (as in Cybotron, Drexcyia, Mantronix, Analord etc...) could be once you strip them from any form of nostalgia and embrace what digital tools / computer can offer.

I can see where you are coming from. There’s an interest of people that adhere so strongly to a specific aesthetic that it can get a bit same. On the other hand it’s interesting to see someone explore variations in a small space.

There’s a nice youtube video of Lazar explaining some of his max patching. Not sure if it would change your mind but interesting nonetheless.

The track on the preorder sounds nice. Swirly

Yes, based on that first track and the few live snippets he posted on Insta this is gonna be good, probably his best since Unfold ?

I appreciate it, but it's not exactly a fun summer vibe.
He was on a role with some killer album covers. This one feels a bit 'it's due to the printer tomorrow??'

I felt the same until this dj set somehow got under my skin. Worth checking if you haven’t heard it.

Excited to jam the new stuff.

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

This track is from a parallel universe where Gábor used his laser noises for the dance floor

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Got this on now. After the opening 10 seconds I thought, here we go again... its a fantastic aesthetic and I love it but the thought of another record of yet more slight variations on the same idea left me slightly underwhelmed... but about 3 or 4 tracks in it really settles in, the tracks get more frantic and twitchy than hes gone before, the basslines (!?) get deeper, the bpm is up, there's less chin stroking bits...  basically this ones mental and can see it working on dancefloors much better than his last 2 or 3 records.
