Quite a bit of new music slated for the first week of October. I'm always looking forward to new GYBE, an all time fave of mine.

Maybe their most identifiable melody in recent memory?! Legendary band with a bit of a mediocre reunion run, in my opinion. I wonder what changed?

When someone at a Silver Mt. Zion show shouted out, "bring back Godspeed!", during the GYBE hiatus, Efrim replied, "you bring back Godspeed; all you need is 4 chords and a loooong runway".

When I saw Silver Mt Zion, it was almost like getting a standup set from Efrim between songs, he's a funny mfer. He kept saying 'don't become a musician... it'll break your heart'

Got my vinyl in the mail a few days ago. Side D is a nice ambient / drone rendition of grey rubble - green shoots that's not on the cd or digital versions.

I don't know if they have Clint Eastwood or John Wayne on guitars but someone is slinging some cowboy riffs on this here record.
strongest melodies in a while. maybe one of their best post-reunion records?

quick thoughts after a couple spins...

BABYS IN A THUNDERCLOUD and BROKEN SPIRES AT DEAD KAPITAL are very very good. the former packing a ton of emotional weight, the latter being ominous as fuck. PALE SPECTATOR is quite nice too, kinda reminds me of yanqui uxo in parts.

the rest is a bit 'post-hiatus gybe by numbers'. decent tracks, but nothing more than that.

Grey rubble - green shoots is the most accessible on the album, but my favorite is probably raindrops cast in lead.
