Ah, I actually clicked that thread to see if this were there, but the most recent post had descended into "Bullwallet" rubbish, so I didn't think that anything substantive had recently been added.

i was too hyped up by the interview to take a step back and strategise the impact posting a link will have on the community. Please... confiscate my Watmm branded mousepad and... cancel me.

i fully support not making new threads. it's autechre mousepads that get confiscated from people who aren't autechre'ing hard enough to know where to look for things.

i think boc probably gets money for their back catalogue and not potential new work. are you aware of some other details about their contract? 

as far as AE goes… i feel like they are probably the most active out of warp’s 90s roster at the moment. they put out those live sets at a steady pace, sign+, nts sets, else etc.

I would just be curious to know if this would be sufficient for a living    - or say, for how long.   not that theyve been sellings billions albums, so to say.

in general i think the idea of being able to release a couple albums and then live off of that for the rest of your life is mostly a fantasy unless it was an all time classic mainstream success. its likely they are doing other things for income like all regular people

shure  .  yeah ok, you meant they (boc) don't have such a deal like warp give them money for a potential new work, they only gets some for some back catalogue sellings but they won't make a linving out of it obviously.

they might get some streaming revenue but who knows what that's like. could be hit or miss. but how big is BoC? they seem pretty popular over the years w/various peaks at different times but internet lore seems still present. 

i think they both have families right? kids and partners and all those normal human being kind of things.. but they live rurally? or is that just lore? i have no idea. i recall pics of them on a seashore near small villages in Scotland or something... 

If they are living off their music I doubt it’s a lavish lifestyle. I doubt Ae and especially BoC live an expensive life so they probably get on with maybe some small side hustles. Or they are full time college professors, who knows for sure!

I think quite a few musicians slide into film making, audio engineering, or some type of design. Or some have other hobbies interests and skills and do something completely different. I think Casino Vs. Japan for example works for some regional health care provider in Wisconsin. 

Whatever makes them happy and gives them the time and means to keep making music is a-ok with me

It seems like a lot of recent interviews (like following the NTS material) have focused a disproportionate amount of time and energy on Autechre's formative years. It's interesting stuff, but I feel like it's been covered pretty thoroughly. I would have enjoyed a bit more of a look at the thinking behind the evolution of the current live material. I suspect they wouldn't speak as freely on that, however. It is interesting to have reiterated the less cooperative inaugural days at Warp and how things evolved after the first couple of albums. It would be really cool for someone to compile all of the interviews they've done to this point in terms of the eras being addressed and to release something of an "Autechre on Autechre" book. They've become a bit more candid in recent years, talking about which of them were responsible for various elements and even tracks, which is something that there seemed to be a moratorium on until sometime shortly after the AE LIVE (2014 / 2015) era apart from Rob's breakdown of what had gone into L-Event (which was perhaps the first time I remember seeing that kind of discussion, which I would love to read more of).

Could these interviews be more stupid? Having the opportunity to interview the legends and what you ask them about? Ironing their pants?! :facepalm

Sad to see the album format go, it will make me listen to new Autechre a whole lot less I imagine. Even though every liveset is album length, I want destinctive tracks. Also for some reason I don't think the live releases sound as varied as an album tbh. I don't have time to listen to 10 hours of soundboards and I don't want to have to remember where I left off in a soundboard whenever I can't listen to an entire liveset in one sitting. Shame.
