M4L Devices

Any favourites?

I have always loved the sequencer from the 'big three'....just seems to work for me better than even the new sequencers when generating useful random rhythms...

I see the mutable stuff has been ported on a number of occasions e.g. https://maxforlive.com/library/device/9129/poly-braids-1-1-1-hotfix-apple-silicon-compatible

p.s. I recompiled the max externals required for those mutable instruments clones so they [should!] also work for Windows folks too:

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

kentaro's stuff is nuts.

https://kentaro.tools

there's a bunch of things to go through and have a look at at isotonikstudios.com

https://isotonikstudios.com

uhm.. k-devices makes some rad modulators and has lot's of sales.. probably one going on now...

https://k-devices.com

kilihu makes some cool stuff. .sequencer is pretty rad

https://killihu.vstskins.com/#plugins

also, you'd be an idiot not to get the dillon bastan free bundle.. you can get it at isotonik or at his site.. all his stuff is quite creative and amazing..

https://dillonbastan.com/store/index.php

just watch the walk through videos of his stuff on youtube and see what makes sense to you.

rainbow circuit makes good shit.

https://rainbowcircuit.gumroad.com

and this person makes a pretty wild delay and granular sampler things with an overload of modulation.

https://rsldev.gumroad.com

+1 for FORS.

also, manifest makes a bunch of midi devices that are jammable in fun interesting ways and you can put together a kind of global system for doing some stuff where the FX track notes etc.

my fav is Bouncy Notes by Dillan Baston - in the past I have used it to program beats, and this video at around the 9:44 mark shows how to use it with drum rack:

My favorite thing to do was to create a rack, load in my favorite one shot drum samples, make a loop that had a good deal of open space in it (to give room for faster and busier rhythms when automating parameters on bouncy notes), and then just let the loop play, adjust parameters to taste, and then record the output into a separate midi track for further editing after jamming on it. I would then record the beats as audio tracks, separating the kicks, snares, hats, etc. out to separate tracks. When jamming on the midi loop with Bouncy Notes, adjusting the 'speed' parameter and lots of other parameters helps put some good variety into the beats.

I made a demo here, where the drum loop plays regularly in the first section, and then in the second and third sections I start using the Bouncy Notes sequencing while also processing different tracks from the drum loop with delays and filtering.

It's an incredible device for beats imo, and I have not tried using the device for other types of stuff like melodies and harmony, but it probably has a lot of different uses awaiting discovery.
