Yes I do. They also did it with cassette tapes in the late 80's.

Yeah. Brittania music club?

Used to always be ads on the back of the free mags that came with newspapers etc.

I bought 6 cds once in the 90s. But it was a real struggle to find even 6 I wanted.

I didn't really want any of them.

I remember getting Odelay, Fugees, Manic Street Preachers, Mary J Blige maybe?

Didn't even have a cd player then. Wtf?

😆 10 cds for a quid it was hard to turn it down, my memory is sketchy but I think it was that one, Britannia Music Club, I think I got it from an advertising insert in Mojo mag when they did some good cover cds, most of them were shit but they did some good ones, I remember one particularly good one they did called The Roots Of HipHop volume 2 and a great Studio One comp with a good spread of tracks from the SOTU comps, have to try to dig those out they were good comps they'd still stand the test of time

nostalgic lol

here in the states it was called BMG music club or Columbia House. same concept but I think it was only 1 cent? I swear I remember taping a penny to the back of one of those cards and mailing it in. I still have some old Nirvana CD's with the BMG imprint on the back of the case.

I joined Columbia House in America, back in the day. I remember my first batch including Metallica - And Justice For All , Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss , the Wayne's World Soundtrack , Queen's Greatest ,  Tin Machine 2 , and a few others. Glory days, indeed.

Columbia house and BMG here in Canada in the 90s. I probably owe it to them that I grew up with my parents listening to really diverse music. My mom would just order whatever tapes because I think you were required to order a certain amount regularly(?)  Don't really remember. But I'm glad she did that.

("really diverse" at least among the available selection lol)

There was an ad for 12 tapes for a penny in the back of a magazine, I'm guessing cracked?  Anyways, I was around 10 years old, and I put together my 12 picks, taped a penny to the cutout ad, and mailed it myself.  The 12 tapes showed up and I couldn't believe it.  I found out years later than the company called our house and my Mom told them off saying they shouldn't have done business with a 10-year-old and they never bothered us again.

Ja! I went in on columbia house in the mid/late 90s - of what I can remember I copped soul coughing, the trainspotting soundtrack, paul's boutique, odelay... then 311 and what I can only assume a bunch of otha wack shit.

My dad did the BMG thing for quite a while. Every so often he would throw me a pick and I remember getting The Downward Spiral cd.

Fast forward 8 years or so and I spotted Trent Reznor in a Wal-Mart, so I ran to my car to get the CD for him to sign. So now I have a signed Downward Spiral that's BMG branded. 😐

My mom did this with Columbia in the 90s. They eventually threatened her that she had to pay up and she refused to do so and nothing came of it. I think I got The Specials collection, Radiohead ok computer, Beck Odelay, Orbital Green album. Something like that.

Columbia house actually had some decent selections towards the late 90s early 00s. I remember them having a lot of cool “underground” albums like the first couple of Raincoats albums on cd and thinking about how wild that was.
