misc
Tim Exile has released a generative instrument called Scapeshift. Seems to be somewhat reminiscent of what I'd imagine is going on in Autechre's system. While the quality of the output is pretty incredible, I can't shake the feeling that anyone other than Tim Exile making music with this thing would sort of be cheating. When something is this generative, it feels like the artistry is in the creation of the software itself and any output, regardless of who rolls the dice (kind of literally here), is actually being created by Tim. I don't know, maybe I'm being naive. Either way, it's very impressive! As the guy in the second video says: "If you can't be jaffed to learn max msp or reaktor and build your own Autechre style sound generation machine, Tim Exile's done it for you" But is that a good thing?
