Would it be nice if they perform and record some old sets from the 'Untilted' tour up to 'Domino' tour - with their new way of recording live sets?

Yeah I think this is more in the realm of fanboy dream than reality. Technically it might be possible, didn't they say they still have the Elektron boxes packed away somewhere? But it would be a massive ballache, retreading old ground probably doesn't hold much appeal for them (except perhaps as a sort of memory exercise) and would def be a move out of leftfield.

Yeah not sure how you think this would work. They would have to meticulously redo their setup if they even have an archived version of the patches and sequences and all that. Why do that when you can just work on more max patches for the current setup. If they do all that I'd rather have them record the Quirky gig 😼

Yeah also you acquire a lot of knowledge during the years and even forget things you did in a more complicated way back then because doing it like this was the only option. It’s not like a orchestra that performs another Mozart sonata

not if it takes time away from that absolute top tier Ae they're doing now... seems like it goes against everything they are.. i mean.. sounding fresh.. is like rule #1 of Autechre isn't it?

the previous things are always there to listen to if one wants to listen to them..

i don't really understand though. if autechre is autechre then they're always doing autechre things.. whatever the context is i suspect there's a through-line that runs through all their releases.. why put some artificial constraints on the process?

in the ridiculous fantasy world where they even get as far as the gear being set up they’d immediately start changing stuff and never get around to recording the old sets

Was it mentioned in these that the 2011 rerelease of Lego Feet was reconstruction, a recreated master mix from the old tapes and DATs? Or did I imagine that? I guess I could listen again to all 47 hours of these AMAs to find out.

Found it! around 01:25:00 in the first Twitch AMA from June 5th 2022 Sean talks about The Warp Tapes and mentions that he and Rob had to "..rebuild the Lego Feet thing..." for the 2011 reissue. Thought it was an interesting and undiscussed bit of info.

Excerpt from the transcription:

"I think it was around the time that we were recompiling, because we had to rebuild the Lego Feet thing when we did that because we didn't have the masters for that. Just time, and had gone missing, so we had to rebuild that. So the version that Skam released later isn't the same as the version that came out in ‘91. That all the tracks sounded different, I mean, we tried to rip, do, you know, replicate it as close as we could but it's, yeah, in the same, so. So, anyway we had them newer versions and they're just a bit cleaner. They're just better digital copies, so, but there was no EQ or anything on any of it or anything like that, it was just as is, so, and then, yeah."

I imagine one of you lot saying this as an opening line when walking up to a girl in a club, and not even mention the Autechre name. Just this line. That would be so cool.

(I changed the 'Would it' to 'Wouldn't it' for even sadder effect.)

this! yes 😂

Thats quite a fascinating bit of info about the Legofeet release I wasn't aware of, and certainly puts things in a different light, but it's still not as mammoth a task as recontructing old live sets, I mean it was just the master they had to rebuild out of archive material its not like they had to sit down and try and reprogram the parts on the 606/202 etc from scratch.

The Domino tour!? That's the first time I heard about the Domino tour 😅 🤣

Redo live sets from a decade ago? It's an oddball idea. Wouldn't mind if they did. But it's not like I have a burning desire they would. It'd be interesting to hear them make new tunes with their old equipment, I guess. Would love that even.

Only if they go back to the "album"-format though. I'd rather have them return to their "releasing albums" days.

Yeah it's essentially just a big editing job isn't it

huh that’s pretty crazy. i’ll have to track down a rip if the of copy to compare with the rerelease. amazing they could still cobble it together

Sean's been a bit more candid in the last few years about having some vintage recordings whose quality might warrant release at some point, and I would love that. As good as some of the bootlegs have been, when held up against soundboards or the equivalent (plus mastering), the difference is rather stark.

Someone asked Sean in the last AMA in '22 about the digitals of Keynell(AE remixes) that were originally available when Bleep launched. He said something like he still really liked them, they are on a dat back in Manc and he'd get them remastered and put on the Ae site. Shame that never happened, I still have the low bitrate mp3s from Bleep but lossless/remastered would be amazing.

I have the same mp3s, bought them along with the original key nell mp3s that have the hiccups (not the good ae ones) in key nell 1.  Would be awesome to see that release get a similar treatment.

While we're on it, I know it was meant to be super exclusive 'n whatnot but I wish they'd release digitals of We R Are Why. C'maaan 'chre bros take my money 💸
