Ambient Luke Vibert

Recommended Posts

Are there any releases or tracks that I may have missed, in the style of Phat Lab, or say,  Intermission from Throbbing Pouch? I feel like there's a lot of material thats bypassed me cause he churns out so much. Hopefully there's an ambient album I've totally missed.

I hope so.

I hope he returns to this style. The first 2 Wagon Christ albums, along with the Vibert/Simmonds stuff are easily his best material in my opinion.

There is more quality in this track alone, than entire albums in his later catalogue. (No diss on the later stuff, more just extreme high praise for the very early stuff)

If you've never heard the track Indian Giver, that's one of my absolute favorites from the same era.

Nice. I'd never checked out that 'tracks for which i was never paid' comp before. I have a few of those LV and Plug tracks on vinyl, but never heard any of the Wagon Christ tracks on there.

Listening now. Flip Flop is very Throbbing Pouch. Gas Fish is well lush.

Nice.

Indian Giver is very very Throbbing Pouch. That snare/rimshot hit 🤌

Edit: wait what?

This cd tracklist wtf?

Think I would have preferred this cause I was never crazy about spotlight.

That one was played multiple times on Autechre's radio show in Manchester in the 90s.  Perfect for 5am

What about At Atmos?  Kind of a stepping stone between Phat Lab and Throbbing Pouch

All great tracks, Yeah from At Atmos is such a mellow groove. Really the whole 94-96 era of Vibert is pretty much top for me. Wet Leg is another hidden gem, gets into Plug jungly territory about halfway through but still massively chill.

not really sure what qualifies but here is a thing

also this, still more in the wagon christ hip hop vein instead of the more synth-centric early stuff vibert/simmonds stuff

Full disclosure _I paid far too much for a sealed copy of Phat Lab Nightmare on vinyl, but it was worth every penny, i really love it.  Such a unique album.

I’d be pretty happy with a return to just about any kind of style at this point. Whatever happened to that weirdo record label that released the last Wagon Christ record? They didn’t want to release any more of Luke’s stuff?

There's a new track of Luke's on the forthcoming 30 year Planet-Mu compilation called"Bullet Drop"

Not sure if People of Rhythm have any plans for a release- haven't heard anything, but they are still managing Luke's US Tours.

I feel like he's almost always interspersed some more low-key tracks on his Wagon Christ albums.

Like "Shadows" and "Loose Loggins" from Sorry I Make You Lush are pretty laid back. "Tomach" and "Thick Stew" from Musipal etc.

That drum loop with the high-pitched whistling is clear hanging around with Richard vibes lol. Great track though!
