jesus wtf. an absolute banger. imo a contender for greatest ever autechre remix. so catchy and groovable yet it hits HARD. perfect for breaking up a long hike.

lol still hard to believe they remixed Dominique Dalcan…

For those curious about the context, this is what the original sounds like:

Turning that into a something that wouldn't be out of place on Chiastic Slide or the Key Nell ep is simply alchemy.

The rights to nearly all those remixes are owned by the labels that released them, its probably a bit of a pain in the hole for Warp, I know they did 26 Mixes For Cash but that hasn't resurfaced again on the Bleep/Afx store possibly due to licensing issues. Now that Warp are under the PIAS/Universal umberella some of them indies might be looking for serious wedge to license the tracks

Or it could be Occam's Razor, Ae just don't want to do it

Insert joke about Warp being a forward thinking label (who occasionally these days like to milk a big repress)

(Side note: PIAS is a distributor, they don't own Warp.  UMG buying PIAS will have nothing to do with Warp's catalogue rights or financial position, or ability to license anything).

(Side side note: not stated from any position of actually knowing any facts from the source, just an observer)

I was under the impression that 26 Mixes happened because someone was working on licensing a compilation of remixes, and Warp didn't want to get beaten to it. (Hence the rush job, some tracks sourced from mp3s because proper CDs couldn't be tracked down in time, etc.) Maybe the lack of such deadline, alongside the overall costs and complexity of licensing, bogged down the realisation of a real-life Ae remixes comp? Dunno.

I'm quite sure Sean did address the subject in the AAA or one of the AMAs, but can't dig for it right now... but it's there. Roughly from memory he said they would be into doing it but the licensing would be a nightmare

Someone did ask Sean in the quick AMA and I think he said something along the lines of he's not interested in doing it, all the remixes are out there so go and make your own comp.

Have you considered releasing a remix compilation and what do you think of the bootleg Laxir compilation thats all over the net? I for one would prefer good quality versions of all of these tracks. A 7-CD box in a similar vein to the EPs box a couple of years ago would make me gush.

Sean:

licensing nightmare
we suggested it to warp back when there were only about 40 of them and they passed on it
if any labels wanna do it, contact us (if you want it to be above board that is, cos trademark issues)

I'm not sure exactly what they do for Warp but I'm fairly sure it's not just distribution. PIAS were contacting people to remove Aphex audio from Youtube before BBLR released, I think they also provide legal services for them on copyright, licensing etc. I'm not claiming anything definitive just that if Warp try to licence from other labels now that they are under a bigger umberella group they MIGHT have to pay more for it now than they used to, not in an inflationary sense, fat cat (not the label) tax
