Dragon
Are the 2 analogue bubblebath 3 CD releases (the 1994 one and the 1997 re-release) identical or was the first one the same as the vinal release? Joyrex
mcbpete said: The Xltronic discog section says that both versions are exactly the same. ...And the Xltronic discog section (as usual) would be wrong - as for the contents of the disc, yes, they are the same, but the packaging is not - the first issuance comes in a bubblewrap "bag" in a slimline jewelcase, and the label affixed to the jewelcase and says "66% more bubbles", whereas the 1997 reissue does not come in a bubblewrap bag and the glossy sticker affixed to the slimline jewelcase says "written and produced by Richard D. James". Additionally, the first issuance had bubbles printed in black on the sticker, the reissue has blue APHEX TWIN logos instead of the bubbles. Additionally, the second pressing comes with another sticker affixed to the back of the jewelcase that features production/release information, as well as information regarding it's companion 12" release (CAT 00897). The third physical difference is the etchings on the CD's inner ring - the original says "CAT 008 CD" and "Mastered By Nimbus", whereas the repressing has "A6213 CAT 008 CD : | :0" and "IFPI L123 NIMBUS IFPI L123". And let's not even get into the differences regarding the 1998 Japanese version. As I only own the second pressing, I have never seen the first myself. So, that being said, the sticker was affixed to the bubble bag and not a jewelcase then, right? I have AB3 (the original vinyl pressing) and mine only came with the "places of interest in Cornwall" sheet - then again, mine came secondhand and not directly purchased at the time of release. Would (could) you be so kind as to scan the letter from Grant so I can ensure it's inclusion into the Discography? Interesting to note some copies of UI RED were stamped with "Aphex Twin" on the label (as to indentify it I guess for the shops). No barcode on the back of the SAWII CDs? Surely I would think this was part of the print run (unless it was the initial run, and somebody in the stripping department forgot to composite it into the film negatives before making the plate, realized the error and they made a new plate and switched it out midway during the inital run, intending on fixing the already printed ones with a sticker so the shops could inventory it)? Three presses of J4? I know there were 2 pressings (black and white labels, ltd 1000, and black and yellow labels, ltd 1000) but I've never heard of a third run - can you provide more info? Guest yetihunter
hiya, ab3 cd - yep, sticker was attatched to the cover flap, had to be unstuck to open, but that didn't damage anything, you didn't have to rip the sticker or anything. ab3 vinyl - i haven't got a scanner sorry! well, i have, but it hasn't worked for too long. i have a digicam and i will (soon) try to get some good pictures for you, no probs - if the pictures don't turn out too good, i'll still post a link for them and maybe just write out the letter placed in there. interestingly the letter mentions the soon to be pressed joyrex j9 picture disc, as a pressing of 1000, i always thought only 300 were pressed? but this was before it was pressed and released so i guess grant & richard probably changed their minds on the amount. the letter itself is just typed and photocopied, only one sided, not as professional looking as the places of interest sheet but interesting none the less. SAW 85-92, mine, and a friends (we both bought it in the first week of release if i remember right) had no barcode, and no barcode sticker on the outside, i have read that this was only the first 1000, but i just read that somewhere on the tinternet, so no confirmations! UI red - i have seen copies with that stamp on them, also some copies of UI blue with the same "aphex twin" stamp, i always thought that that was probably the distributers who did it to try and make them sell, i seriously doubt rephlex would have stamped UI blue with an aphex credit. joyrex j4 - i do have 3 versions of it, the black/white label (i think this was the first yeah?), also the yellow/white ad a white/yellow (the two colours the other way around if you know what i mean) - i should be able to get photos of these labels. i have to pop out very soon, but when i'm back i shall try photos of all the above if you want, i'm no chris cunningham though, so don't expect the bestest quality in the world ever! but i will try my best for you :) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/10560-analogue-bubblebath-3-cd/#findComment-216527 Share on other sites
