1. it's monophonic -- So? A lot of synths worth using are.

2. it's ancient -- So? A lot of synths worth using are.

3. it's a pain in the arse to actually get a decent sound out ouf it -- Maybe for you.

4. try and get the same sound again -- Its called patch charts. Or a sampler :ok:

5. what is the point? -- Because some people enjoy this kind of thing. Some people don't. I wouldn't use a 303 for anything, but some people swear by them. It doesn't bother me.

don't even try to defend them mate. modulars are just synth bling. you stick them in the background of your video to look 1337, and you spend whole days turning knobs and pretending you're a mad scientist.

if you want to actually make music, then there's this wild cutting edge invention from the mid 70's called a "polyphonic synth with patch memory"

Right now I settle for Nord Modular's, as the best of both worlds.

I would love to have a real Modular system though.. it will sound distinct.. it will sound lovely (really guys, if you just want to get a usable sound out of it, how hard is it to patch VCO -> VCF -> VCEG -> Mixer? Throw in one cord from an LFO to the VCF Cutoff, or maybe ride a bannana jack off of the envelope to do the cutoff and voila, a thick classic sound in about oh, what, 3 minutes?

Sure, they're quirky, limited, expensive, cumbersome, and have no patch memory.. it doesn't really matter though.. because you can make some cracked out sounds that you've never imagined, if you have the $$$$$.

Can't we all just get along?
