preset instruments

Perhaps this is too general a question, but there's so much talk about designing instruments in reaktor; is it frowned upon to use the presets? Not that I have a problem with frowning, mind you. It's just a hell of a learning curve and there are some decent sounds already.

I don't think anyone will care if you use presets. If you like a particular sound, then use it!

Presets are ok man. You can always tweak them to make them more individual anyway.

preset reaktor instruments is obviously 100% fine. that's just like using any synth someone else made. preset patches - if they're good, fine.. but it's useful to be able to make your own.

presets are fine, if they're what you want. a lot of people use presets, but tweak them. where all this "are presets ok" BS comes from is, some people just use presets, never tweak them, never make their own patches. and the point is to get the sound you want, not just use sounds from a random pile put together by some synth designers.

The problem with presets is the mindset you get in by hearing them. You will design your music around them. I use them though. I like a lot of wierd free synths for this reason. To deconstruct a preset is fun, good beginner strategy. Much easier than creating ones own, although that can be a learning experience, unless its really simple.

Presets should be used carefully. I've heard tons of people use plain old microkorg presets, and it's getting hard to use those anymore.
