Bubba69
Im sick of freeware. Ive been demoing things but nothing has quite convinced me yet. SURGE is the top contender so far, its only 150 dollars or so, and its really well put together. Kubik is 60 bucks and ill probably get that too although thats not what I need atm. Im looking for something a bit bigger though. It needs lots of routing options, a modular or semimodular probably. VAZ modular is up there as a top choice, but its a bit outdated. Ive also looked at tassman a lot, it has VERY nice sounds and im almost pulling the trigger(gotta love the physical models). Budget is my only problem. Im looking to spend 200 dollars max and those are both over 300 dollars. If anybody could reccomend something thats monstrous but not unmanageable and does more than just subtractive/VA stuff (maybe a hybrid style) could you give me a shout? ALso if you would like to sell me a product you own but dont want anymore for cheap that would be cool too. how much is reaktor? thanks! EDIT: Im also very drawn to VAZ modular in particular in the effects I can create in the vst effect version, and the fat osc sounds. If that helps anything. Guest the man
are you a student? If so, then you can get discounts on software at stores like http://www.academicsuperstore.com/ Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/11895-i-need-a-big-synth/#findComment-238352 Share on other sites
Guest sinkfield
i think absynt would be a good buy, i dunno about price tho Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/11895-i-need-a-big-synth/#findComment-238373 Share on other sites
Bubba69
absynth doesn't seem to be what I want. isn't it a pad synth? I need a lot of "playable" sounds. Like plucked, piano, lead, and bass sounds as well as pads. Thanks fo rthe student suggestion! Can it be any college? Bubba69
Okay, reaktor here is only 180 bucks. Thats REALLY cheap. whats the catch, can I sell it again or is it a special version? I just fell in love with surge's ease and flexability but I also want reaktor. what should I do? Surge will cost me 170 bucks or so and isn't as powerful but is much better as a dedicated "synth". I dont think it has a discount. You have to e-mail 'em some sort of proof that you are currently attending a college and you can only buy 1 piece (or something like that) of software from them per year. I bought reaktor sessions from them a couple years ago and there was a large "academic version" sticker on the box, but it had all the features that intact... Bubba69
Ah, well, I think Ill go for it! Its seems nice and I'd really like to make by own ringmod and effects and stuff so I think Ill get it adn it has decent synths. I wish I could get VAZ instead for like 75 but I cant. or surge instead for like, 40. Bubba69
eh.. my reaktor 5 demo is expired. I will get surge first and get reaktor for christmas because I dont yet need reaktor as much. Ive got a job but school costs money too. Im still amazed by how cheap that discount is though! Im getting surge because its a fantastic synth and I need it for a nice melodic runs and pads that dont fall apart in different registers. Its also more flexible than most free synths. Reaktor is better and more powerful but SURGE is so fantastically put together that I can't back away from it. Bubba69
Id rather have software versions of some things than hardware. Then I can ask for feature requests and things of that nature and get updates and all that good stuff. Id rather support a developer if I liked the product, especially If I make good use out of it. I can re-sell most software too If I need to. The only hardware Id pay for are audio recording devices and analog devices, as well as speakers. Or a stable synthesizer If I was to rock out live, otherwise hardware is useless. I wouldn't want most digital synths as hardware, they are only good for performance and show adn software can easily outdo them for the most part. I would never spend 300 dollars on a softsynth either though, probably 250 max. I dont buy things I dont need to. But I just spent 170 on surge, but thats because its awesome.
