modey
I'm asking this because the only noise I've heard is either sad, angry or generally dark sounding. I guess it comes down to the general lack of melodies, but do you think it'd be possible to make any noise sound happy? If so, let's do another Test Signal compilation! Let's do another one regarless! Guest Captain Cooper
I think it's possible if you're skilled enough. To be honest most of the music I make today veers towards noise and doesn't have much traditional structure to it. But the fact is when I want to express an emotion that's happy or delicate I tend to integrate rhythm and melody... it'd be a nice experiment to try and make some "happy" noise and I'm well up for any collective attempt Although almost no one would ever want to listen to it ever  Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/12599-a-question-for-debate-perhaps/#findComment-252480 Share on other sites

Chris Moss Acid
the BROWN NOTE between 5 and 9 Hz The brown note, according to an urban legend, is an infrasonic frequency that causes humans to lose control of their bowels due to resonance. The name is actually metonymy for a common color of feces. Effective frequencies are reportedly between 5 and 9 Hz, below the audible range for humans (generally humans cannot hear sounds below about 20 Hz). However, as the supposed effects are difficult to explain through known medical science and have yet to be verifiably reproduced in a controlled environment, most medical professionals are of the opinion that the brown note, at least as described in the legend, does not exist. Guest Adjective
brown noise is the most comfortable to me i think a cat purr is a good example of a nonmelodic happy noise Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/12599-a-question-for-debate-perhaps/#findComment-252737 Share on other sites

Guest 277: 930-933
Run a mono synth (or like, whatever) note through a distortion pedal and constantly use the pitch bend to create gay sweeps and merry oscillations. That could be a start. SWOOOP SWOOOOOOOP SWOOP! Guest oxiactionmax
surely it's all context, if you're talking about a straight up noise i'm sure you can convey certain very basic things but for emotions i think said noise must be in some musical context, whether in a harmonic or rhythmical sense. I've not heard it but if you can describe it in any way as "folk" then it ain't noise :tongue2: Adjective said: i think a cat purr is a good example of a nonmelodic happy noise It's an excellent example, I wouldn't have thought of that Ocean sounds are probably another good one.. although you're strayign dangerously close to new age dolphin music with that one Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/12599-a-question-for-debate-perhaps/#findComment-252954 Share on other sites
modey
Yeah, I was thinking field recordings that aren't drowned in reverb and twisted by pitchbends might be the first step to happy noise. Bubba69
Something along the lines of a summer breeze and a babbling river, although not tonal, evokes a happy feeling in me. Its also a little subjective. If you have ever been blown away or had sometinng really good happen to you at a noise show or while listening to harsh noise I bet its possible to be happy about it. Solo Strike
Fennesz comes pretty close to this I think. Endless Summer is a really interesting album as it combines a highly digital approach to an album which is essentially about nostalgia and half forgotten memories, very warm sounding ambient/noise.
