need recording equipment, low budget.

Recommended Posts

Guest SamWhite!

Ok, so I want some decent quality music, and I have a pretty low budget (a few hundred dollars maybey). I don't really want to record straight to my computer: A. My soundcard isn't that superb B. my motherboard sucks (my USB connections, and microphone port are shit). So I want some kind of standalone device for recording, that I could then easily import to my computer. I would also need to get a microphone etc. for it.

Please give me suggestions for a good set up.

for field recording a minidisc recorder with some large headphones as a stereo mic is an easy way to get reasonable stereo recordings. or something like this maybe: t-stereo mic

i have this MD recorder which is fairly cheap on ebay you could find cheaper. i think i got one for about $30-40, it varies

the track i just posted in ekt, all the samples were recorded with that and some sony mdr-v600 headphones.

if you mean setting up a studio in your home... then i guess i can't help there, just spend some money on a decent sound card and mic and then sound-proof your closet.

or sometimes i make some makeshift walls of silencing power around my computer when i'm recording into it (to dampen the fan hum). pillow fort, chairs, etc.

you can buy that synth, the name eludes me, for around 100 bucks. the mpc for 1 grand, but only because it's new that it costs that much. it's pretty much all you need though for wholesome knob twiddling entertainment. save your money if your serious about it/

I dunno, I really like Adjective's idea. I'm going to get that stuff, and go to my school's band room, and sample every percussion instrument they have etc. It will be grand. When I'm at people's houses, that have crazy outta tune pianos, I can record some mad melodies.
