Squee
Ok seriously, it can't be that hard creating these lovely sounds. I mean I should be able to make them with this rather good VST Organ plugin I've got, but I can't seem to get the sound right. Does anyone have any ideas? Stabs such as the attachment... Guest blicero
it's all about the reverb and delay. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/14503-dubstabs/#findComment-295502 Share on other sites

True, but the attack on the organ VST I've got (the one that comes with Logic 5.5) is messed up and it's not even close to being as violent as the one I posted. Guest heliumb
Try a compressor with a quick release to attack the attack. ??? Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/14503-dubstabs/#findComment-295693 Share on other sites
cloudbreaker
doesn't particularly sound like an organ to me. you could always make a fake transient on your organ in a wav editor though I guess. Sounds like a semi subby bass sound with delay and reverb...layer a bit of vinyl cackle maybe. Guest blicero
or you could just sample... doesn't sound like an organ to me either. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/14503-dubstabs/#findComment-296215 Share on other sites
impakt
That's not an organ, it's a high bass note. Guest greenbank
argh! all talk and no real help! typical... i reckon organ could be a good start - i just had a wee mess about and did a rough thing using 0.6 sec decay on a (2 Osc) synth note using organish sounds (i used a wavetable style thing but an organ plug should work too, i don't have any handy). it has an even shorter filter time where it allows through more freqs for about 0.05 sec, then that goes into reverb with no 'reverb' just the early reflections which are kept extremely short but diffuse, then a dub style delay with EQing on the repeats to filter out the low + highest parts, then finally another regular 'roomy' reverb for atmosphere. i think the first reverb is not so necessary, try without to start with, it gives it a tiny bit extra movement ho which is nice. i think the key here is the higher freqs for a very short time getting through and also use diads/chords, not a single note. (i used g# and b here) i've probably let through a wee bit much highend overall but easy fixed and hopefully this'll get you started. it's not exactly the same but it sounds pretty nice as far as i'm concerned and i'd totally use this in a tune so what the hey. there are probably loads of other ways of getting similar, feel free to ask if i missed any details or if my horrible description needs clarification! quick_dub_attempt_thing.mp3Fetching info... Squee
Thanks a lot! :) I'll definitely try that. I've also been thinking about trying use an old Rhodes for dub stabs, and I bet it could work...somehow at least. If you have time for it, I'd like to you to describe it a little more into details, because I'll probably run into problems as I most often do when I try to recreate sounds I've heard before. But once again - thanks!
