this album is fucking superb. not much development in the sound from the first album, but who cares when you have nine tracks of extremely catchy and danceable punk-funkish stuff with a shouty bloke and lots of overdriven synths and drum-machines with cowbell and shit.

i loved the first album, and i love this one too.

the track north american scum is fantastic. and very funny. then again, losing my edge is hilarious, like an anthem for a certain type of music nerd

fuck, this album isn't good at all ... only two great tracks. it's too 'indie rock,' there's nothing ground-breaking or catchy or disco-tastic. fuck. i've been looking forward to this album for two years

Just heard this, mostly mediocre but Get Innocuous is amazing. Someone Great is really good too even though the alternate version was already on 45:33. Other than that I wasn't impressed though.

the standout tracks for me are get innocuous (how 'remain in light' is that track?), north american scum, and new york i love you, after a few listens.

i tend to listen to it on headphones a lot. it's good walkin about doin stuff music.

this album is awesome. it sounds like talking heads if they were produced by martin hannett

wow, pitchfork gave this a 9.2 ... i'll admit that it's improved slightly upon repeat listens, but i still think it falls short of his earlier singles (there isn't one track on 'sound of silver' that's better than losing my edge, yeah, or tribulations)

URB gave it a 5/5 too, but then again they've never printed somuch as a bad word about anything DFA. This seems to be getting critic's panties wet everywhere, I almost think it's a case of people wanting it to be a classic album more than it really is (yet). Only time will tell. I picked this up 2 days ago for only $8 (thank you newbury comics) and I think it's a damn good album, get innocuous & n.a. scum are faves so far.

yeah, i agree, like all the critics want this to be the huge breakthrough lcd album, but it just isn't ... 'us vs them,' 'north american scum', 'get innocuous' and 'someone great' are solid, but the rest is pretty forgettable. using pitchfork's scale, which annoys me but i can't help but think in terms of pitchfork ratings at this point, i'd give it like an 8.0. whereas his first album was my favorite release of 2005, i'd give it a 9.4 or something

"Someone Great" and "All My Friends" are fantastic. The rest kinda suffers. "Get Innocuous" is good, but it's so cheesy I need to be in the mood for that sort of thing. The last track isn't bad either.

struggle with this. really have an aversion to the guy and his music fails to overcome that. which is sad. since many here seem to think it's great, so i feel i'm missing shit.

Well brooklyn is such a pretentious hipster incubator, and I suppose that a lot of people have an aversion to DFA because they're such prominent figures from that scene. From the few interviews I've read and from seeing LCD live (awesome BTW), Murphy is a pretty likable bloke. I'm really looking forward to seeing LCD at coachella.
