LOL he really does get all in a bunch about downloading. I guess its tough on an independant label owner with kids and stuff.

Mike, your live show was 1000x better than Squarepusher when I saw you two in Canada. No seriously! Ok, so mayb eLuke Vibert's DJ set was better than the both of you, but its ok. You were second best! Make some more?

I Agree totally on the cult thing. When people realize you're basically a synth nerd who's really good at making music and thats about it, they don't get as excited for some dumb reason. But you know, spending 10 hours trying to analyze what modular VCF Aphex is using on xmda5, well now, that shit's worth spending $2000 on a set of records for!

u-ziqs melodies are mediocre at best i think, its his beats i like. well maybe mediocre is the wrong word, i just hate the fact that he rarely ever leaves the tonic/dominant and the harmonies just sound bland, i really dislike tango and vectif because of that.

how come?

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

I think next to Aphex and BoC, Mike P makes some of my favourite melodies. Here's to hoping he releases more.

To be honest though, I don't like the direction (musically) Planet Mu is going - like Rephlex, they seem to be concentrating on all this grime/dubstep/dancehall stuff that just doesn't do it for me.

There's still plenty of diversity on Mu though?? Fair play to him for putting out a lot of dubstep, some of it like Boxcutter is a bit more progressive than the standard wobbly bass n' bongos fare, and it's probably selling better than other genres they've been putting out. Plus Mike clearly digs it bigtime.

I'm not sure there's been much dubstep/dancehall on Rephlex of late though, apart from the Razor X album and Spac Hand Luke (both fairly long standing Rephlex artists)

I positively HATED grime/dancehall/dubstep until I finally heard it live on a proper sound system. The bass totally drives the stuff, and most peoples home systems (even me, and I have a decent setup) do not push the low end nearly enough.

That being said, I still dont love it, but I wouldnt run out if I heard it live and was in the right state of mind.
