melancholy: liked it until the beat entered. that beat really is terrible. i guess the sounds are chosen on purpose but it really ruined it for me. the synth aroun 3:40 has a nice sound that fits the mood & the mix. maybe the melody could've been worked on a little more.

reminds of pink floyd vs angelo badalamenti vs 8bitpeoples :).

honestly i found colonel terrible.

:cry2:

That's pretty strange, as that is one of my favorite(of my own). Well, different strokes for different folks, but would you mind explaining why you found it terrible? Is it an error of mine or your own tastes?

what matters is how much *you* like it. how much pleasure you took making it.

If that was all that mattered to me I wouldn't have put it up here. I believe that music is basically just fun, but i wish to improve, and thats why I want feedback so badly. Granted, there is no wrong or right in music, but what is generally thought of as crap is probably crap.

8-bit Melancholy is great. Reminds me of the Mulholland Drv. theme melody. Just kill the drums and you've got yourself a lovely piece of work.

Why thank you :embrassed: I really enjoyed that movie, but can't remember the themesong.

How comes nobody likes the drums? Wouldn't the track be a tad bit long and/or boring.

It's not that I don't like the drums, it's just that I don't like drums in ambient tracks unless they're really soft, smooth...and kind of organic if you know what I mean. The drums should merge together with the pads so they sound as if they're actually a part of the evolvement in the track. I don't know if this is a bunch of nonsense, but listen to this:

http://www.myspace.com/klovndk

Listen to "Extract from Oerst...". In the end of the extract drums fade in (some sort of bit crushed drums) and they have this "organic" sound to it :)

But you should download the track called Mulholland Drive/Love Theme from the Mulholland Drive soundtrack.

DOWNLOAD :omg: Your advice is surely not that i should pirate music! I, sir, am not a thief! *Getting on it*

I presume that these tunes where made by you and a friend of yours with turntables and whatnot (seeing as you seem to use alot of samples) and i must say that i am pleasantly suprised at the quality of your tunes (not to say that what i've heard from your end is bad, but this is ace stuff). Kinda reminds me of xploding plastixx, which i thoroughly(probably a typo) enjoy.

What you're saying about the drums makes sense to me, and i've actually been thinking about changing them to just low-freq kicks, but want to keep the 8-bit sound. I'm sort of into writing 8-bit tunes at the moment, as i'm shit at making a nice melody as i mainly focus on the drums, and now i want to make some sort of 8-bit EP (i'm not stupid enough to try and sell this, but it's a fun project).

I'll try improving them by making them fit more along to the pads by giving them a warmer sound.

Thanks for the feedback everybody! I gather that noone really cared for colonel  but i love it, so it's all good.

Cheers!

yeah hehe. anyway sorry about the last reply, maybe i should elaborate abit. the ambient one is abit harsh in the upper frequencies and the melody is both very typical for old 80's scores and way too in your face to be aesthetically pleasing in my opinion

The sounds used and production on the second track don't really work well

No need to apologize.

I'we had a hard time mastering and mixing stuff, not really knowing how to "fit" things into a soundscape. I'm working on this.

Typical for an 80's score? That was just what i was going for with the whole low-fi 8-bit stuff.

colonel's journey isn't bad. there's too much of that two-note whammy bar stuff, but i can hear some real potential in your melodies. you're building emotion and direction well, you just need to refine things a bit. keep it up.

the first track is also good. i think the drums work well, helps move the track along. the ending with the two melodies is great. again, i am hearing real potential. like i said, keep it up, you will only get better.

I'm with him here. The 1st one is ok as well. I see potential, although this style isnt exactly my favorite. I say keep at it.
