Has anyone tried making video game music? I thought I might do some just for the fun of it but is there any kind of guide as of where to start? I thought I might cut up loads of 8-bit noises then start sequencing them but I'm sure there's an easier way or a "have this software link" solution that may be found on WATMM...

8bit trackers are around, I only remember "Mad tracker" but ther are many more. Just gotta make sure ALL the sounds are super lo-fi. If you wanna do it with consoles, look around for LSDJ, or get wayfar at wayfar.net

There's goattracker for making ol' skool C64 tracks. But the interface is somewhat retro, shall we say.

For a more up to date way of making 8-bit noises why not try Peach: http://www.tweakbench.com/peach (free VSTi based on NES type noises)

and by the same token Toad: http://www.tweakbench.com/toad (which is like Peach but for drums)

Try Drsid for drums and unknown 64 for C64 type synth sounds. They are both excellent.
