mcbpete
UPDATED POST Hello there, Here's a track I were werkin' on over Christmas when I had no internet which made me a sad panda. It's a full length remix of one of the tracks from our last album (but more in the style of the bonus CD that came with it). It's a ambient droney 20 minute-er. If you're not really into drone stuff then I'd probably say keep away (its more minimal than our usual stuff). Download and stick on yer 'eadphones, and listen to in the dark, and let your brains switch off to sleep sleep land. The track kind of Tim Hecker / William Basinski / Keith Fullerton Whitman / DJ Olive - esque Happy sleeping  Pete. Guest iep
this unhappy panda prowess was pretty enjoyable. tho i didn't like the ringing resonant midrange bad-reverb sound to it so i listened to it at low volume - overall i thought that the 'production' could be a lot more complex & deeper, it sounded shallow & simple to me... i liked the flow of the track, the harmonic progress, the shifts in timbre. but overall maybe this would work better if it'd be less one-dimensional & maybe a bit shorter/condensed. mcbpete
As I say, there's a shorter version on the album and bonus CD, I just thought I'd give a bit of an extended mix. Cheers for downloading it and taking your time to review it man. Yeah, I have got a bit of a thing for ringing ambience noises which is why the first half is like it is, I kind of made it like that so it gets more and more overwhelming so that the breakdown gives it like some relief (kind of like the silences between tracks on noise albums, but with ambient noises instead !). And you're right about listing to it quieter than normal, I didn't really notice until I accidentally put it on full volume half way through the track and it sounded like that noise when you leave a loud concert at the end of the night. Play it quiet fellas !! Cheers again boss Edited January 6, 2007 by mcbpete Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily. mcbpete
I know it's a bit naughty to bump. But I'm just wondering what everyone else thought of the track. I agree about the harsh resonance in the first section, it was meant to be like that but maybe I went a tad overboard.... ten fingers ten toes
I think the enjoyment of this is going to be very speaker and biology dependent. That is, I know people who probably can't discern half of the higher freq sections in this and/or their ears bleat out resonance tot he point of zero dynamic range. I feel as though the sound in the first section is either looping, or has a very short modulation sequence that while it might be shifting, triggers pattern matching sections of my brain. To me anyhow, that's not something I like in a drone. Of course this could be some timestretched natural sound or something unavoidable, I can't really tell just saying for my tastes. The further I go into this the more personal it seems to really be. I can easily see spacing out to something like this for hours in front of my own setup. So, I think its enjoyment to others will be on some very personal level. I do like the gradual change in timbre around 4:07, it's very subtle and nice. The resonance is now causing a bit of ear fatigue to this. While I don't think this would be something I would regularly listen to, I do appreciate the tonality of it all. Very mind relaxing. Very mind relaxing. i listened to most of the track, even though i am not a drone fan (generally seaking). i think the frequency range needs to be a bit more properly tuned... the highs are somewhat overwhelming and caused me to wince a couple of times... there is a general tin-iness (tin like the metal, not tiny) to the highs that i don't like.... but otherwise, the flow and mood of the song are very nice... You know, I really think this is it. When I posted this back in January I thought that the resonance was perfectly sorted, but a few weeks later I thought it might be a bit too much. Now listening to it again I'm happy with the levels again, how strange  Cheers for listening to it man and giving your feedback though, plus your thoughts as to why it might give such different feedback from different people. I appreciate the time you spent listening to this and responding (to all of you) Pete. mcbpete
EDIT: UPDATED 7/7/7 Inspired by Kaini's Keith Fullerton Whitman post I decided to redo quite a bit to this track. The resonance on the middle section that caused everyones ears to melt had been fixed. It's been mastered a bit better too using Izotope's Ozone software. So yeah, see what you think. It's certainly a lot kinder on the ears and slightly more interesting to listen too also. springymajig
au was always by far my favourite track from the album... and the more I listen to it, the more I thought "damn I wish this was longer!" so naturally I was quite excited to see this... and I was not dissappointed at all... it's really really nice... even if it is the same 3 chords played over and over agian... it's one of those loops I feel like I'll never get sick of. Thanks for posting this!
