Having a go at drill 'n bass

I've been reading the thread about mixing and mastering alot lately, and tried doing it myself. I usually use the FL EQUO for my freq-work, and i recently got t-rack (which seems like one big compressor). I tried my best at mixing a drill 'n bass song i made recently, and i feel that something's missing and/or wrong. Please help me get the sound i need, as this shouldn't be a problem if i want to improve on writing tunes and beats.

I am also looking on any feedback, hints and pointers you're willing to give on the actual tunes. Much appreciated!

Yea there's something odd.. nothing seems to be at the front of the mix. It sounds like you recorded it being played in a room so it's all muddy... I do agree with reducing reverb, but as for solving the mix problem I dunno, adding some stereo spread is a start, and EQ the different sounds to separate.

panning... bad? maybe in punk music. song definitely needs spread. the nintendo esque melody that comes in is dope. but the reverb is too dense.. it sounds like you just chucked a reverb on the master. i would suggest working with that a bit.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

I feel that the sound is clearer, but maybe a tad lound in the higher frequencies.

What a fun track.

It's kind of like, super mario-electronic music-aphex-venetian snares-8-bit-happy thing..

Pretty funny song, good.

I say comedy because the synths pitch is all shakey and just the overall mix of different influences fused together.

Thanks man, glad you liked it! After a few listens i found the mix to be a little devoid of bass. I'm not going to bother fixing it though, since i'm really submerged in an ambient project. It's probably no good, but i find ambient pretty relaxing to work with.

Heh, skilled? I'm less skilled than an orangutan (hey look, rhymes!) But it was a pretty big ego-boost so thank you very much.

This is necessarily the style of breakcore I'm into right now but I can appreciate it. Melodically/harmonically I wouldn't say it massively grabbed me. Yeah you got some okay beats skills but the 8-bit style really ain't my bag. Mix feels a little messy with sheer dominance of that like acid synth. Needs more layers from the off I'd say too. I like it when you introduce that 8-bit manga shit ... that's quite nice harmonically.
