QY700 or boss 8 track digital

Recommended Posts

if im basically a noob with a primitive drum machine and a 101, is it actually even worth splashing out an extra 100 or so quid to get a proper hardware sequencer in the long run?

as a proud owner of the qy10 about 1 million yrs ago

i say qy700

it's the shit basically

edit: what drum machine you got?

Edited by LUDD

im inclined to agree simply cos it looks so much sexier than an 8 track

the drum machine is the one that came on the electribe mx 1

im in two minds about that thing, the drums dont seem to to sound too bad once youve plastered some effects over them, and i was like, yeah beast i can make proper rich beats just by layering up loads of drums on top of each other, but the bastard thing doesnt seem to have the CPU or whatever the fuck controls it to run more than one effects ridden bass drum similtaneously. it just makes a horrible farty noise and conks out if you put too much together, which as far as im concerned isnt exactly that much

id love a better one like the 707 or 808 or whatever they are (havent looked into that yet) but there just too costly.

just wondering, how do you sync up your 101 sequencer with the electribe? do you have a midi conversion kit or somthing?

also tr-707 dont go for that much (at the moment) and you can trigger the 101 from the rim as well, not to mention the 707 is the lushest drum machine

i am a noob

i dont know what syncing up means, or how to do it, i just practice the 101 as if its any other instrument, and then play it in time with the beats i make

regardless of that anyway, as far as me or the emx-1 manual knows, you cant record stuff from the external audio port anyway

which is why i need one

im gonna go for the qy700 anyway, just because it looks like it has more stuff on it and hardware sequencer just sounds more fun than 8 track recorder

do you dont use the internal sequencer on the sh-101?

haven't we been through this before felch my man? are you actually aphex pretending to not know anything about anything? you must know what syncing up is! and you must have worked out the sequencer on your 101! you just MUST.

anyway, if you're not actually aphex, then syncing is when you get everything to play together in time (ie - at the same tempo) and all start at the same time and stop at the same time etc. so, you do a sequence on your 101, do a drum pattern on your electribe, press play on one of them and they both start playing together in time and it doesn't sound completely shit.

to do this with the electribe and the 101, you would need a MIDI/CV, or MIDI/DIN Sync converter, as the 101 does not have MIDI. MIDI is a way of trasmitting data about notes and timing (pitch, length, portamento, legato, tempo etc) to other synthesizers so they can all "talk" to each other and play together in time. Before MIDI there were different ways of achieving this. Chiefly CV/Gate and DIN Sync. Look up CV and DIN Sync on Wiki or something, coz I can't be arsed to explain it all now.

anyway, get whatever is cheapest (I guess that's the QY700) IMO as you are just starting out and it would be silly to spend too much money at this stage.

see ive been getting round that simply by practising the little tunes that i make to the point where they are identical every time, although this is getting harder and harder to keep up with because the clickrate cursor thing is fairly innaccurate for exact tempos and shit, so im gonna have to look into this syncing stuff

ive basically dreamed about owning a qy700 since they came out

but im a bit of a lazy cunt so i cant ever afford one

and theyre probably even more expensive now

because that beardy jazz nob :squarepusher_logo: famously uses one

i get a fair amount of income, i come across say 250-350 a week, so if something takes my fancy, its not especially hard to save up.

do you not pay rent, bills, buy food etc? i earn about £350 a week and am always totally skint.

i live with my parents and pay 20 quid a week

the only bills i pay are a weed addiction, but that can be curbed if theres sexy boxes of buttons that tickle my fancy.

theres one on ebay atm so il see what that goes for before i jut buy one brand new, 600 quid is alot of money whichever way you look at it.

id just have to deal more skunk if i moved out, thats all.

im too attached to the convinience of having my cupboards stocked full of food for me and my bills paid for, the only thing moving out would be good for is getting blizted in my room, i can deal with that though.
