So, I got a BCR2000 for Christmas and I was just getting around to really playing with it in earnest yesterday.

I had a Nord Modular patch going with about 10-12 different values I had assigned to midi cc's that were edited by the knobs. About midway into what I was doing though, I noticed that, just sitting there, playing the note sequence in Renoise and nothing else, the BCR was changing values on knobs with no input from me. Like, take the top row of push encoder knobs, I would watch knobs 1-4 drift about +/- 15 or so in value, constantly.

I have it set to Standalone-2 behavior mode (IN + Merge to Out A, Thru to Out B), I have Midi notes generated from Renoise, into my K5000S, out of the thru on the K5000s, going into the IN on the BCR, then out A going to the Nord Mod. Im not really sure where its getting this CC change data from, but its.. very odd. I verified that Renoise was not sending any CC data, only note values.

I could try going Renoise -> BCR2000 In -> A to Nord Mod; B to Kawai, but I didnt have the chance to.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem

Will try, thanks for the advice.

iep just sent me Bridie's universal BCF/BCR editor, so Ill give that a go when I get home as far as editing the CC values and all.

Also, the LED lights around push encoder 7 are either turned off or broken, anyone know how to turn them on? :D

  • 2 weeks later...

how have you got this setup, is renoise using the bcr thru usb? or on another computer interface?

i would check that the k5000s isnt sending any extra midi, maybe lfo data?

best bet is to unplug everything and try adding one thing at a time until it happens and thats your culprit

also i would suggest using renoise to bcr with usb then midi a to nord and midi b to k5000s

also use k5000s midi out to bcr in

that gives keyboard to renoise with separate outs to nord and k5000s with bcr controller data to all 3

the led lights that dont work mean that there is no control info setup for that rotary

just add some and the leds return (:

Ya, I had fixed the knob, I also upgraded the firmware to the latest version and all seems well now.

I have it set up now Renoise -> BCR -> Out A to Nord Modular -> Out B to Kawai K5000s thru to Synthesizers.com Modular Midi2CV, which seems to work ok now.

Not sure why I'd want the K5000s going back into the BCR? I dont doubt you, I just don't understand why.

it would let you play notes into renoise and the nord and also into midi2cv (if renoise is connected by usb)

does the kawai have a sequencer? if so it would let you use that to trigger things or sequence controller info, which could run in sync with renoise

or you switch off renoise and just use kawai to sequence everything (you maybe get midi feedback, not sure how k5000s deals with that so could be a bollox suggestion)

i try to have as many routing options as possible so i can use strange combinations for weird results... if its got an in or out i usually try to plug something into it, heh

I see what you're saying.

It would be great if I could play the keys well at all but really Im just kindve a button masher in that respect. It has no sequencer per se, but a very powerfull user editable arpeggiator.. basically like a programmable 16 step sequencer that can loop forward/back/ping/rnd. Come to think of it, that would be kind of fun to play around with.

I beleive the K5000W (Workstation edition) has a more powerful onboard sequencer.

thanks for the tips btw, I appreciate it
