Here are the new Korgs

Yeah, that "new" Microkorg doesn't look too exciting to be honest. Mini KP looks pointless. It's like the same principle as making mini-snacks... you get through the packet and it just makes you want the bigger version. Although 3rded, 4thed whatever... Zero8 looks tasty.

anyone know some specifics on the portable recorder? i'm in the market for one.

the MR1 is the dog's. i have been dealing with m-audio trying to get a deal on a microtrack for almost a year, but this thing blows it away. it's 1-bit / 2.8 mHz, so it's future proofed recording (or so the marketing hype says. only true until some entirely new digital format comes out that we've never heard of). it includes software to dither down to whatever bitdepth / sample rate you want later on. plug power on the inputs, comes with a little stereo mic. overall it's basically the microtrack, but about +10 in every possible category.

retail is $700 or so i think...

it's a pretty powerful toy, but the price is definitely the major catch. also, the mic inputs would require i buy a new mic setup, or adapters, which i'd rather not do (xlr ins would be preferred). 1 bit/2.8 mHz recording is also pretty incredible, but am i really going to use that level of fidelity? after all, the bundled software is specifically built to ramp it back down to a usable resolution...

i'm still considering getting the Zoom H4, since the price ($300) is a bit more workable, the built-in stereo mic is excellent, inputs are xlr, and the recording quality is sufficient for whatever i'd be doing with it. the only catch is upgrading to a decent flash card (includes a tiny 128 MB).
