Guest Promo
So I've just installed my pci card I got for Xmas. Internal wave audio seems to be working fine. However when I go to record something in Cubase I get latency but when I'm just jamming I get no latency (6ms). Secondly I hooked in my Korg 05R/W via Midi and its seems to register and everything on the Soundcard's Control Panel but I'm getting no audio output from my speakers. Basically I've got a mixer's out going into the soundcard's ins. So that's pretty odd to say the least. I should be able to get my Korg's to work and for the most part it seems to be except I'm getting no audio out. The latency issue with Cubase seemed to be the exact same problem I had before so I'm pretty mistified. Now I'm assuming there are quite a few folks on the board using analogue equipment with digital soundcards so why the fuck is this thing giving me grief? Alzado
re: the latency, first thing that comes to mind are a couple of obvious questions: have you downloaded the most recent drivers from m-audio? have you selected the right ASIO input in Cubase's preferences? i think its called M-Audio Delta AP Multi or something like that? Guest ~ism
above... and also - are you still using that old peice of junk pc that you had a few years ago, or have you upgraded to something post 1990's? If not, it's probably your lack of native processing power. If not, it's probably your lack of native processing power. Nah I'm using a new pc; Pentium 4 (2.4ghz), 80gb with 512ddr ram and XP. I really just think that the version of Cubase I've been using for the past 4/5 years can't cope with the new systems. My sister has a Dual Xeon processor and when one just jams with a vst in Cubase 2.4 you get zero latency but when you come to record shit then the latency kicks in. Now I used Ableton last night to record stuff in and there appears to be virtually no latency issues so I'm just gonna have to conclude that the version of Cubase I've been can't deal with new systems/set ups. I haven't resolved all my issues yet but I'm either gonna use Ableton, here on in, for my sequencing or move to another sequencer. I'd love to use Cubase SX but I just found the key editing really shitty and slow. The thing I like about Ableton is that once you have a sample in time then you can use it at any tempo. I'm not too sure about the key editing on Ableton yet but I like the ease of Ableton and the way I can just have a shitload of real time fx to hand. What's your latency calculation say in Preferences/Audio? My totally latency is 13ms which is pretty reasonable I think. It depends also how cpu intensive the vsts you're using are.
