I wasn't a big fan of the original either, but the Quoth (Hidden Mix) was pretty good.

I always guessed Quoth was the single because it was the more dancey-ish track?

Either way, I hope it means there's a Surfing on Sine Waves vinyl reissue coming up.

not really that keen on the two b-sides either... i remember one day i was really into them for some reason but i haven't been able to re-capture that magic. haven't heard this "hidden mix" though?

The Hidden Mix only appeared on the UK and US CD versions of the single, and is not listed on the tracklisting. As far as I know, it's also not on this vinyl reissue. It also appears on a Japan-only WARP Classics CD compilation that was released in 1996.

I wish Richard would one day release the aborted "Surfing on Sine Waves II" that he had planned. He had an whole LP arranged, ready to go. Never saw the light of day.

Unless TVT decides to, I doubt it. TVT seems more like a rap label these days, looking at their site.

Yeah I heard somewhere once on the old electronic music digest list, in the 90's, that there was an album of Surfing On Sine Waves era stuff coming out. This was like 94 or 95. The release, from what I remember and was told, was going to be called "Leftovers".

yeah i don't think it will... i'd actualy say those two bonus tracks were part of that leftover album... so it's not likely.

Actually, the two tracks added for the reissue (I was in communication with Richard at the time) were the first two tracks he picked off the first DAT labeled Polygon Window he found. I couldn't say anything at the time in fear of pissing off WARP. He said he had quite a bit of Polygon Window material leftover from the SOSW days.

shouldn't have ever been on a cd, would have been best vinyl-only...

Quoth was always meant to be dropped at 3:00 AM in a sweaty club/warehouse packed with thousands.

Quoth was a monster back in the day, people literally losing their minds...

I had for a long time thought about starting a thread about this but since we're already talking about the Quoth singel:

Iketa is an amazing track but never really seem to get mentioned. It's a shame that it seems "forgotten". Also Bike Pump Meet Bucket is a great track. Both of them are IMO better than Quoth and it's remixes.

There.

I think 'Quoth' was included on 'Surfing On Sine Waves' because Richard was already taking the piss out of his listeners at that time. Strangely enough, it's fits wonderful between Audax Power and If It Really Is Me. Audax Power already has some dark moments in it, when it toggles from a light melody to some harder drums and harsh synth. Then Quoth comes in, and recalls the sinister atmosphere that has started in the previous track, but much more brutal. Then If It Really Is follows to calm down the listener for the rest of the album.
