derelic7s ventures into acid

ive had alot of fun doing some acid shit, inspired by the contest that was some time ago.. i understand it's not as "legitimate" not using a real 303, but i still think it's great fun.

maybe you could say what you think about them? i didn't get any comments in the thread and i've gotten some positive response here and there elsewhere, would be interesting to hear the watmm brethren verdict

most of the tracks use 707, 606 and audiorealism bassline for 303, and korgs polysix vst for chords and shit.. some exceptions of course.. most of them are mixed live with software channels lined out into my mackie mixer for maximum analogization-izing.. ation. ah well

what started it. basically some samples of predator together with repetitive acid drum mashing, designed to be a fun track. its liked among people who dont appreciate electronic music maybe for its blues undertones

this one's nice.. some level issues and the 707 goes out of tempo in the end, but i love the pad sequence. feels really personal for some reason..

There's nothing inherrantly wrong with these, I just feel like they are basically straight rips of Analord style acid. The detuned pads, alot of the 303 programs, the drum patterns, all just very analordy. Notice that Chris Moss sounds nothing like Aphex Twin or Ceephax. It's a big part of his continued success, because he carves out a style of his own. Then again, if you're just taking it as a hobby and like to make music you like to listen to, there's nothing wrong with emulating styles. Also, I wouldn't worry so much about making things sound "Analogy", music should not be about the process, although its so easy to get cought up in that.

i agree theyre analordy, mostly because it's the major form of acid i've been exposed to and i kind of like it, rather than the typical ravey stuff! i agree chris moss has really nailed his own style, i wouldnt want to go that far though but it's nice to make little acid ditties.
