Bizarre noise with Multi channel vsts in Ableton

So any vsti which supports multi channels or outputs seems to always produce this irritating noise which sounds like a high pass hum (well its essentially feedback). Anyways I've updated my soundcard M-Audio Audiophile 192's driver and I still get this noise from sounds played from these vsts. It is a pain because it limits me from programming in drum beats etc. I'm sure some folks here must have had this problem because it can't be unique except I can't find anything on the internets about it.
