Guest Moebius
on a relative topic, is there anyway to do "subtraction" between two audio clips? Say you have one clip with someone talking and another clip which is the first clip plus some music, say. Can you subtract the first clip from the second and get a reasonable clip of just the music from the second? theocide
i remember reading somewhere how to isolate the vocals from the instruments in order to have a clean cut of the vocals separated from the instruments or some bullshit oh well who fuckin cares. david
i thought that was only truly possible if the vocals and instruments are on separate channels Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/19524-midas-touch/#findComment-398585 Share on other sites
Siegecow
Load the waveform onto the screen with a program like audacity, then take a pencil and outline the the shape of the vocals on your monitor. After that, close the program and open up a blank document. Now put tracing paper on the screen and trace the shape you drew on your monitor. Fold the tracing paper four ways and cut around the pattern starting from the center going outwards. When you unfold the paper you will have a beautiful snowflake. pylonbitch
lol. yeah... same question as "how do i get the eggs out of this cake?" phase cancellation is the best method. (though it can't be used to remove eggs from a cake) but it's by no means perfect, and its efficacy relies a lot on the production of the original sample. given that boc clearly used an acapella of the vocals, your best bet would be to track that down, phase reverse it, and layer it exactly in sync over the boc version... if the panning is right and they haven't put too much extra production on the vocal (which they have), you might get some results. otherwise, you could listen to the boc version a million times and try to match it with your own production skills. (i'm presuming you're talking about the boc version... if you're talking about the midnight starr original, then this technique would probably yield better results) good luck.
