triggering samples based on mic input

hi!

so i have this lil built in mic on my laptop, i want to be able to tap it and have the peaks write midi notes or trigger samples (whose volume would be equivalent to the volume of the tap).

is there anything out there that does this or should i start looking into how to do it in max/ msp?

There is something from http://www.smartelectronix.com/ but I can't remember the exact location of the plugin.

You should be able to find it relatively easily by checking out all of the developers homepages.
