Guest Aces
Hello people, been a while since i posted anything in here. All i have is this question: Where can i get gigs? I have been looking around for a while. I can't seem to find anyone who is putting them on. I really need to get out there. I really wanted to play. Can any of you help me with this problem? Certainly not sure if this is the correct forum either... Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/20207-live-shows/ Share on other sites
goffer
local venues should do the trick but if you cant find at least one of those, your last resort is to stream live shows over the innerwebz. pylonbitch
basically you've got three options. one... you're unknown... you want to play gigs to build a local fanbase. start postering NOW... just your name and a relevant cool picture... get people wondering "who the fuck is this (insert your name) dude?", "what is this all abou"". let that run for a couple of months... now put together an amazing live set, visuals etc. get another act to agree to play/split costs with you and save up. hire out a local venue, pa system, do a poster campaign with times and dates, and hope people show up. you might cover your costs if you're lucky. two... you're a little more well known... get a good demo to a local venue promoter, and agree to a percentage of the door take as your wages. you may or may not expect a sound engineer and pa to be supplied, so be prepared to take a loss. three... you're quite well known, and have released a record or two, ro reasonable acclaim. get yourself an agent/tour manager. he/she will hopefully already be in touch with promoters, wither nationally or internationally. your agent gets you gigs, you give him 15 per cent of income. he makes sure you're treated well, costs covered and you know what you're doing. that's about it unless you want top play local high schools, or you're already huge and get invited to glastonbury and shit. Braintree
I generally play coffee shops and hookah bars. Sometimes I play actual bars. I usually play for free too, and just sell cd's and stuff. Guest Aces
Loganfive: Those are good suggestions. We were thinking along similar lines. I have a record out and by all accounts i have read it has been well acclaimed. I will give you an example of one of these. This is from Rocka - rolla magazine: Newbury Resident Paul Mulholland aka Skink should be very proud of his self-titled debut, It's all swabs of ambience and glitchy beats just like they should be - all messed up and foetal. But to say that's all this album is a very short-sighted statement. There's also an overwhelming element of drone on here too. 'Minutes Turn To Hours' is the sparest track on the album and offers a lot of insight into Skink's play on textures and musical demeanours but it's when the track sprawls into 'Look To The Sky' that you realise this kid possesses some serious talent. The deep, breath-like ambience of the song is disturbed only by high pitches, waves of electronic noise and heartbeat percussion that really does induce unconscious ponderings. His command of percussion is also excellent and more than evident on 'Who Are We?' and the slow album closer 'The Ages of Carbon Dating Mk III' which is possibly the highlight of the album with its moody guitar centrepiece boxed in by stuttering drums and ripples of static. Skink is an exciting and very engulfing listen. There's enough depth and texture in the washes of melody to keep all those long beards scratched and enough fast paced turns and unexpected drum freakouts to hold the concentration. I think that maybe getting an agent is the way to go. Thanks you have been very helpful. Sometimes, i think i have become entrenched that i can not think about some things logically so i think that will be the way to go. Cheers. Guest plant extract
When I was in the band we simply emailed people and asked to support reasonably well know acts, and we got a tour out of it. You always get your chance if you are keen, just make sure the music is well prepared and people might like it. .
