Flawed is the second full-length album by American producer Stephen Knight under his Edgey moniker. Released on the influential German electronic label Hands, Flawed transcends genres, combining elements of breakcore, powernoise, darkstep, glitch, rhythmnoise, electronic music and dub, while never losing the artist's roots in New York's underground electronic scene. Cleaner, darker and slower than his last release Square Form Annihilations, Flawed is still every bit as raw, melodic, hard-hitting and fast paced--delivering everything fans have come to expect from Edgey's emotionally fueled and oftentimes politically charged music.

This new album, best described by referencing an array of meaningless subgenres, simlutaneously elicits the comparison to new adjectives whilst maintaining its roots in having comparisons to tried and true classic adjectives. Though the adjectives associated with it are completely different than before, rest assured this album will conjure the same old assortment of colorful adjectives fans have come to expect from the artist's intangible noun-fueled music.

I'm with you guys, really. I find genrefication of musical styles ridiculous. But on the other hand it's a sort of neccesity for describing the sound (for print and promotion)... In most of those examples, those looking for those particular flavors of music, know exactly what each subgenre is.

We all know the jokes associated with "electronic music", and most of us reject the description, and likewise, that too hasn't exactly permeated "normal culture". electronic music might have taken a stronger foothold as a genre name, than, say.. glitch. But as a fan of electronic music, most people here understand "glitch" as a subgenre. You wouldn't expect someone not famililiar with the genre to understand, just like I don't completely expect everyone to get anything listed above... BUT! I'll certaintly try my hand and describing anything that's completely off-the-wall.

For example, powernoise/rhythmnoise grew out of the EBM/industrial scene. Personally I think it just sounds like an "industrial" version of gabber (more noisey clicky kicks, less 909's), but never-the-less, the name is out there, it's its own style.. and those looking for powernoise know what powernoise is...

When spouting off genre names, I'm right there with you guys, laughing. So, I'm not offended in the least. :phone:

'Descent' has the clicky, tight techitch vibe going on for half.. then moves into some scorn-esque dubby half-time work. 'Cohesion' (one of the other tracks on the CD I uploaded), is pretty different... It's a sort of crispy breakcore/glitched-out/electronic music/powernoise thing... I don't really know how to describe it... 'Cohesion' is a bit of an oxymoron. :)
