Yesterday, i went out and bought a powerbook g4 1.67ghz on impulse. There are some problems with battery calibration but something else has been bothering me more: what the fuck use is a mac when all the money i have in the world has been spent on the computer with nothing remaining to buy the software which i'm realising is much harder to download than versions for windows?! Is there something i'm missing which redeems apple in this respect? (portability is desireable yes) because i've always been told that they are the definitive tool for music production and countless of my favourite artists swear by them- i just don't get it. What do you lot think, should i hotfoot it back to the shop and see if i can get my money back or is it something worth perservering with?

a PC with software is certainly better than a Mac without

(but only margainally)

I use a PC because I can't afford to take advantage of owning a Mac - If you can buy Digital Performer, Max/MSP, nice Motu 896, etc... whatever else you need, then it's certainly what you want to be using...

But then you can make music on a PC without spending anything... Have to make do with a shitty environment and interface, but other than that they're about the same...

Nothing whatsoever is accomplished, nothing is born and nothing is perceived.

There is neither falsity nor reality.

This is just some indescribable unborn entity which is spread.

took it back and got a sony vaio instead, reaktor 5 seems to run ok on it so i think i made the right decision instead of sitting infront of my ibook playing endless games of chess against it, good game though it is.

good call. welcome to the gentleman's club.
