No electronics, not even a pedal.

TJ came out first and just stood there with his bass strapped on smiling while everyone cheered, he said only "thank you" then began playing. He stood there and played solo bass for roughly 25 mins and hardly paused. One minute he was playing the most amazing chord progressions you've ever heard on any instrument let alone a 6 string fucking bass. Then he would go fucking mental and play at 200bpm with jaw dropping technique and precision before returning to something smoother and jazzy again. Its not the first time i've seen him live so i already thought of him as just about the most ultimate musician on the planet but his performance even shocked me. He has truly become one with his instrument and I would challenge anyone to show me a better bass player now or ever. It was breathtaking. Oh and he played a much longer full length performance of the song from the culture show and it was awesome beyond words.

Then there was a 20 min break and we returned for evans parker who played a soprano sax piece that lasted 20 mins without stopping once to take a breather. The guy plays sometimes 4 or 5 melodies at the same time with alternating time sigs and added percussive sounds from tapping. Very trippy. Finally they came on together, evans swapped for an alto sax and they played for probably 15 - 20 mins an improvised jazz performance which had everyone in a trance of utter amazement and shock. Watching TJ stand on stage and play his bass really is the modern equivalent of seeying Hendrix in his prime, except better.

Best 15 quid I've ever spent
