About Rebirth:

The majority of the songs on this album (except for 3) are remakes of songs that range anywhere from 1-5 years old. Several of them are from my Project 168 ep's. Basically, I've been writing mediocre retro electronica under the name Earvalve while slowly learning how this homebrewed electronica shit works. Now, I feel I've reached a point where I actually am proud of my output, and thus, I felt it neccessary to write under a new moniker, as not to be directly associated with the half-assed tracks I've been shitting out for the last 5 years. Now that I know what I'm doing, I wanted to take alot of old melodic ideas that I liked and reinvent them with a new sound pallette. All of the remakes have been rebuilt from scratch going by ear with the melodies; I did not use any old project files.

Also, 4 of the tracks were from an EP I posted here previously. 3 of the songs are identical to the versions on that EP, with the exception of Leaving Again, which I rebuilt completely from the ground up.

I went with the name The Intangible Orchestra for a little while, but that name doesn't really roll off the tongue very well. And, to be perfectly honest, I really think Cats Watching TV is pretty mediocre, with the exception of The Thue-Morse Sequence.

As for my WATMM name, I had Joyrex change it back to Earvalve because I think it's a good silly messageboard name, that, in the large scheme of the universe, is ultimately inconsequential. Invisible Sandwich was a gimmick that stopped being funny to me once name changing was disabled and I was stuck with it.

That is all for now. I hope you enjoy this album.

  • 4 weeks later...

Listened to this 3 or 4 times now...

The first track is defenitely my favourite....

I think that for the most part the album feels a little bit cold, dry and mechanical... but that might just be a personal thing... the only song that feels like alot of emotion went into it is the first one... and hence it being my favourite. Also... it's a tad bit samey... but certainly, the more I listened to it, the more I sorta 'got' the different feels for each track. I think if you steered away from the skittery breakbeats for 3-4 songs it woulda made it feel way more varied.

On the positive side... I really really admire your ambition. Not enough people there are making long, epic electronic music... being an Orbital fan I really go like that sorta thing. And you do it fairly well... I mean, I never once thought "sheesh... I'm sick of this song"... so while the album on the whole probably coulda done with more variation, the songs themselves move around really well. And also in regards to the whole ambition thing... I noticed you used some pretty crazy time signatures every now and again which is always cool :) And it's all very well produced and programmed... nice sparkly synths with gritty beats... a good mix.
