Guest Iain C
The only way I can find fulfillment is to create the plugin I have in my head. It uses X-Y control fields to manipulate .wav samples in super-secret ways. I decided to try Synthedit but all the tutorials focus resolutely on synths and not sampling - I suppose this should have been clear from the name but I wanted to try it. Can SE actually do anything significant in terms of sample manipulation, or am I going to have to steal a copy of Reaktor/MAX for this one? NB I've never programmed a damn thing in my life Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/21805-i-want-to-make-a-plugin/ Share on other sites

Guest pantsonmyhead
http://www.jackdark.net/darkware.html ^^^good examples of synthedit capabilities there are alot of sampling type devices you can make in synthedit Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/21805-i-want-to-make-a-plugin/#findComment-450384 Share on other sites
Guest Idiron
i read something about 'synth maker' which exports as vst (unlike synthedit) in the latest computer music mag but it says that you need a relativly good grasp of C languages to use it. i think reaktor would probably be your best bet, maxmsp maybe but you ain't used that before have you? Bubba69
synthedit is definately the best, most mature environment if you want something stable compiled in vst format. Well unless you want to really code it. acid1
You can code it in C++, its not terrible, most of the functions are overloaded. I was even able to use Java to write a vst the same way which is even easier if you use an IDE like eclipse. http://jvstwrapper.sourceforge.net/ Besides that basically what people are saying above is correct. Reaktor or Max should do the trick. It should be mentioned that they both have wobbly VM's, I'd go to reaktor if you can't code. Guest Dr. Elemeno von Hat X: PhD
honestly i found most java IDEs to be terrible! not a fan of java either - but then, i've been doing C/C++ since before java was around. emacs and unix shell plz. visual studio is admittedly pretty good too, it's what i use for anything windows-related. i HAD to use java for something for work, wound up going with NetBeans as an IDE. still made me borderline suicidal Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/21805-i-want-to-make-a-plugin/#findComment-451047 Share on other sites
acid1
I have to plug Eclipse cuz I used to work on the development team for it :) Its way better then Netbeans none the less. I do C++ at work now but sometimes I get lazy and I don't want to worry about destructors and pointers when I'm just working on something casually. Back to the topic, Synthedit has this shitty interpolation algorithm that almost FFT's whenever you actively adjust parameters that I think creates a signature Synthedit sound which I find annoying. Synthedit is beginning to become the "Bryce 3D" of audio plugs imo.
