Do you ever wish BOC didn't have beats?

Was listening to In a Beautiful Place out in the Country and listening to the incredible songs, but just wishing that they didn't have some pretty shitty beats over the top. I quite liked some of the beats on Campfire, but with the other albums and EPs the more I hear them the more I think the music would sound better without the beats.

Don't know if anyone agrees, but does anyone know somewhere I can get beatless boc, or a way I can do it myself?

I do think a purely ambient, beatless BoC album would be great, but hell, who am I to say what they should and shouldn't do.

Their beats are generally very well done...see no reason for complaint. Julie and Candy has some of the best drum production I've ever heard.

if you really have good bass speakers and a sub the beats suddenly become great if you turn them up loud

but yes in some moods i dislike the beats too

happly they tend to less / better ones in their latest releases

I saw part of this thread title under "recently updated" and I immediately thought it was going to end as "didn't have beats". I think BoC might end up doing something a lot more interesting with their music if they ditched the beats and were forced to figure out another way to carry their tracks. Textures are one thing BOC tends to get somewhat inventive with, beats not so much. They almost always keep them as safe as possible.

i think the drums on those tracks are great. dry, but not really at all. good stuff.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

Agreed. I remember in an interview, somewhere around the TCH release, they complained about their imitators following the formula of thick synths and hip hop beats. What better way to drop the cliche than to try something new, eh? Some of their beatless tracks are arguably their best anyway.

Erm, not really. Although it would sound cool, it's (to me) even fucking better with the beats.

I would love to hear a BoC ambient album though, drumless or something. That would be interesting...what they think of as material that doesn't need beats.
