How to create this bitcrunched synth/pad

Recommended Posts

It's kinda pathetic that I need help to create the same synth/pad, because it's pretty obvious that it's a bitcrushed pad/synth, but whenever I try creating it gets too high pitched and simply annoying. I've tried the bitcrusher in DB Glitch and it's pretty good, but I'm simply not getting the same warmth as in the Björk sample below and I want to know why.

ring mod

Oh really...

Care to evolve on that?

Take a pad sound, and run it through a ring mod? Experiment with different modulation waveforms/pitches.

sounds kind of vocoded, or convoluted with some simple rhythm as well. dont just rely on using a bitcrusher to get effects like that.. there is a bit more to it, at least thats how it sounds to me.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

Try taking a look at some of the Camel Audio plug-ins. Camel Crusher [FREE] and Camel Phat both have pretty decent distortion sections including bit crushers.

EDIT : Phat's got a nice selection of filters to including ring mod plus some other stuff.
