Guest Keef Baker
Personally I just use a sine based kick with a long release, then through a resonant filter and then through an amp simulator. Amps tend to resonate at certain frequencies due to the speaker they're coming out of. I bought mine back in the 90's for £300 when they were considered pretty mediocre - Poor man's SH-5... With the MS-50 and SQ-10 it's wicked, or if you've got a few MS-20's you can patch together, but without it's way too limited - I could get some good zaps and you can do the Isoprophlex style bass drums easily, but not much else... For £700 I'd be looking at an SH-5 or better bet, an Analogue Systems modular with EMS Synthi and Moog filters ('bout £1000)... Other thing with the Korg MS synths is they're hz/volt (or something) so you can't sequence them from the 303 very easily... You can have it follow pitches from the audio out (of the 303) but it's a bit sketchy... I wouldn't be suprised if richard used some of that home-made distortion on a lot of those bass sounds... Guitar amps are quite good for that kind of thing - Lots of tone controls...
