Guest philia
hey guys, i will now share my music with you. i was a bit hesitant, not because i'm afraid of criticism, but because i honestly don't think my style of ambient will appeal to many. it's loop based, very repetitive, w/ not much progress(if at all)... but pretty and comfortable i think. so i guess if youre into stuff like basinski, or biosphere's shenzhou you might like it. here are some tracks off my latest effort Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag the wayward cloud 2:42 Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag loop3 (fane of the path) 2:54 Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag loop4 (ascending the stairs) 3:20 Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag fall 5:37 if you're further interested, more here: http://freedomirc.net/~stefan/sam/mmh.htm thanks Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/22540-ambient-tunes/ Share on other sites
Guest Glass Plate
The wayward cloud has a great tone and feel, the whole.. basically being a lupe makes it a bit less fun but I mean if you were to develop this stuff it'd be nice Loop 3 has a nice sound too, but once again. loop... Loop 4, is a bit too blury and mushy for me fall also has a great sound, but I wish it would do a bit more. Freak of the week
That's all great stuff, especially Wayward Cloud. I understand the person above, and I partially agree with her, but I think that it's best that you stick to making music the way you like it, like I do. (I myself compose such repetitive ambient) Edited June 20, 2007 by Freak of the week Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/22540-ambient-tunes/#findComment-468277 Share on other sites

Guest philia
thanks for listening and the feedback! freak of the week: yeah i'm pretty much making music now that i myself enjoy to listen to. before i had made more beat oriented stuff, mostly because others would find it more accessible, but it really felt like it wasn;t me..if that makes sense. so yea Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/22540-ambient-tunes/#findComment-468321 Share on other sites

Guest philia
thanks again dudes. well, i have recently made a short video for one of the loops. a 'visual loop' if you will. it's my first original video ever. :embrassed: shooting location: outside going to bring my camera w/ me to tokyo next month to capture some visuals there, so i might make more of these Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/22540-ambient-tunes/#findComment-494348 Share on other sites
springymajig
I don't understand why there's such a negative attitude towards ambient music on this forum... The Wayward Cloud: I think... this could be way slower. The spaces between the notes seem way to short. I bet it could work if you even just slowed down the file. The way it is at the moment doesn't really grab me too much. Loop 3: It's really nice but.... it kinda sounds like you're DIRECTLY ripping off William Basinski Loop 4: This one is AWESOME, really cool texture... actually had somewhat of a progression.. really pretty... my only complaint is that it also sounds almost a little bit too William Basinski but not nearly enough to bother me on this track Fall: This is real sweet too... again, nice that there's somewhat of a progression. I also like that it was a bit longer, I do think good ambient music needs to be quite lengthy to work well... generally... well I guess there are exceptions... anyway cool stuff! Guest philia
Springymajig said: Loop 3: It's really nice but.... it kinda sounds like you're DIRECTLY ripping off William Basinski haha yea, fair statement dude, i did emulate his style for most of these. i love basinski's music very much, and he was and still is my main inspiration for music. i didn't mean to pass off this style of ambient as unique or whatever (iguess it sorta sounded that way from my 1st post), so yeah apologies if it seemed that way. anyway, glad you liked them! & thanks for the suggestion regarding wayward cloud. it does seem a bit fast now that you mention it - especially when compared to the others.. i'll keep this point in mind for next time. Guest apy
Wayward Cloud is great and I'm grabbing the rest. It appealed to me a lot, good to hear your making this music for your self and not tailoring it for the public, if your into it, then other folk will feel it too eventually. This is definitely suited to film environment and you've handled it well, nothing wrong with loops. : ) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/22540-ambient-tunes/#findComment-495027 Share on other sites
